Folks.....when Kevin Love says he could see himself as a Celtic because of our winning culture....who do you think he's referring to? Brad Stevens? Jeff Green? KO? The fans? Bob Cousy? Tommy? Our history?

He's referring to Rondo. He's referring to Rondo, maybe Sully, Parker/Wiggins and that's it.

False.  IF anything he was just referring to the Kevin Garnett winning culture that is now gone.  Love was just being politically correct for a Boston publication.   There's little chance of him playing in Boston.  Dude is a Laker.

“I’ve never really spent much time in Boston. I don’t know it too well,” he said. “But I think as far as playing there, we love competing against those guys. I think they have a great coach and they have a ton of youngsters that are up-and-comers.

“Boston is a great city. I’m sure free agents would love to go there, especially with [Brad] Stevens as a coach. He’s a guy that can win basketball games. He gets guys to play for him. They’ve been having good success there, even in his first year, and he has a lot of young players. The coach has a lot to do with it, but yeah, Boston is a great place.”

I"m sure "free agents" would love to go there.  Lol.  Dwight Howard said similar things when they asked him about it... but he didn't actually have any interest in playing in Boston.   Just giving the local media what they want to hear.

BUt fwiw, if you want to pin Love's comments on anything... he mentioned "coach", "youngsters and up and comers"....   Everything other than "veteran point guard"

Dwight's comments in 2012:  ""I'd always listen to a team like that," Howard told the Herald. "I want to win a championship, and it takes a certain type of team to win a championship. You know, there's a lot of teams who are great during the regular season. They play well, but it's different once you play in those playoffs, you know?"

Just a softball answer for a Boston-publication.  What are they supposed to say, "No... i don't respect the organization and hate the city".

Love how a lot of comments I've seen here and on bleacher report are "If I skip a shift at my job, I get fired"
yadadadada.

When it's 100% obviously "When my boss gave me a vacation day, and I didn't show up, no one was surprised"
Every year there are 6-7 teams with a lower winning percentage than our current record. I think we've gotten so used to ignoring the bottom feeders since 2008 that we've forgotten how bad some teams are.

That's not quite accurate, is it?

It's more like you have a cool boss and assumed that you could have a vacation day, and the boss got a little miffed that you never cleared it with him.  It's the type of thing that won't result in major discipline, but does look unprofessional.

Yeah you're right. I was gonna put "When Saturday's are a optional workday and you are usually 100% there, but miss one day without saying anything and they're a little p---ed off" but I put that first and speedclicked post and 2 lazy to edit.

In the piece it clearly states "Rondo did not receive official permission" not "Rondo never asked for permission". To me that's key because it means he asked, didn't receive it, and stayed anyways. Or maybe some Rondo apologists would refute that by saying that C's treated poor Rondo like Macaulay Culkin. The team forgot Rondo back at the hotel, left on the team bus, boarded the plane, and only remembered Rondo while in the air traveling to Sacramento.

Agreed 110%. People look into these softball answers to questions players give about playing in Boston too much. Of course if a Boston reporter asks someone like LeBron about Boston he will have nothing but nice things to say. It's all good PR. What's to gain by saying the truth anyways? Boston has horrible weather, no nightlife, and no tax breaks. If you're in your 20's or early 30's why the hell would you play in Boston? All these people drinking the Kool Aid grasping at straws for 2015 will be sadly disappointed when the Celtics are unable to sign anyone. Maybe then people will admit that the Celtics are extremely low on the FA totem pole. In modern times the organizations that are the most attractive is LA and Miami with Dallas and both NY teams right behind them.

It's probably more like people in your department typically call in to take vacation days when they don't have pressing work and the new group leader gets mad the first time it happens because that's not how he ran his old group.

Rondo asked, but didn't receive permission and stayed anyways. It's pretty logical.

I understand why you're making that inference, but I'm not sure that that conclusion follows from "Rondo did not receive official permission".

That could mean, as you suggest, that he was denied permission.  It can also mean that he didn't receive permission because he didn't ask.  Heck, it could even mean that he didn't receive "official" permission, but that he'd received some other sort of "unofficial" permission.  That last one doesn't make much sense in context, but it's an example of what we can infer when we parse a reporter's words closely.

It's more like you work on commission and there are 29 other companies that do what you do. You make far and away the most money for your boss (and at your position you made more money than anyone on the team since the 1950s or so) and it's reasonably known you're underpaid and have a contract renew coming up in a year.  You were not expected to make any sales on Friday because it's a holiday so you don't bother to show up at the office to do those stupid little things like straighten your pencil.

A smart boss would ask you how your day off was.

A stupid boss lets it be known he's miffed.

Even Bill Belichik let guys have days off. They weren't even injured. No way on Earth he treats a banged up Brady like this when he wasn't expected to play. No way.

I'm not sure that it's exactly apples to apples, but if Brady skipped game day because he wasn't expected to play, and didn't tell BB about it, there's no way it's ignored.  Bill respects his players, but he also believes in leadership and discipline.

1. I am a huge Rondo fan and think he is the best floor general and passer in the game and will make a great floor leader to start this rebuild with

2. I think most that want to get Rondo out of here or have massive problems with him are eating this story up.

But, even if this wasn't just a communication breakdown where Rondo told someone he was staying but it never got back to Stevens or Ainge, he is still at fault and it wasn't the smartest move. Rondo needs to make sure such things are completely clear before going and doing what he did. There can be no breakdown in communication about such things, especially since he was named captain and because Ainge and Stevens want him showing the young guys how to be responsible and dedicated professionals.

In the long run, its a minor thing but just really dumb.

There's no need to parse, Bulpett explained it pretty clearly last night on WEEI. The problem wasn't that Rondo stayed behind or didn't inform the team he wasn't going to Sacramento. The problem was that he "told" them he wasn't flying to Sacramento instead of "asking" whether he could stay behind.

The gray area that Bulpett spoke about in his article is two-fold: first, under Doc Rivers if vets weren't playing on a road trip they were given a choice of whether to travel or not. They didn't have to ask permission--it was their call. Second, asking permission was just a formality anyway, since the answer is always "yes". So if you know the answer before you ask sometimes you just don't ask in the first place you just tell them you're doing it.

So Rondo got lax with protocol and Brad got a little upset because the impression from the outside looking in is that Rondo is dictating things to his coach and not the other way round. Hence the talking to and the possible fine.

The actual incident isn't much to talk about, but the context of the incident is. Even the fact that this got out is kind of indicative of the state of that locker room right now. What happens in the locker room should stay there and when it starts coming out it's usually a sign of discord. Brad or the coaching staff were the source of this leak and even then the sources Bulpett reached out to to confirm the story disagreed amongst themselves as to the severity of the breach of protocol. Brad obviously felt he needed this public to keep his locker room in order and/or to send a message to Rondo. We'll see if it worked but airing things in public is often a last resort (or it should be)--and I'm sure Brad understands this.

It's also pretty clear that Ainge and Rondo need to have a talk because both guys have been pretty tepid in their support of each other in the last week. I don't think Rondo likes the no back-to-back rules, the losing, or having his name in trade rumors, and whether it was intentional or not he kind of acted out in this instance. Danny for his part in this last week has been as unenthusiastic about Rondo as I've ever heard him. Usually after rumors pop up he goes out of his way to prop Rondo back up--this time he didn't, and instead said he expects that in the summer there will be better offers.

I hope Rondo stays around long term but this last week has shown there to be some cracks in this relationship. They can be mended but I can't help but wonder if Danny had just done the smart thing and said that Rondo was unavailable at the trade deadline if this all could have been avoided. He was never going to get full value at the deadline for a player coming off injury and all he's done by listening to offers is depress his greatest asset and upset his best player. Not the smartest move considering free agency is 16 months away and they're going to try to get Rondo to take a discount to stick around.

The only times Danny has lost a free agent has been when he's disrespected them (see TA and Ray Allen). It's never been about money, it's always about respect and I fear if we lose Rondo that's going to be the contributing factor. When's Danny going to learn that you need to show a little love, respect, and loyalty to your players when you demand the same thing from them?
Folly. Persist.
