I hate to say it, but I fear he's not the guy. Too many mistakes. Low football IQ. Drew freaking Lock just outplayed him.

It reminds me of Drew Bledsoe. Lots of talent but ultimately loses his head under pressure. Maybe Drake can win with a perfect team around him. Our defense is fantastic. But if you can't score against good defenses then you are unlikely to get over the hump.

Never mind the 3 interceptions, the offense looked bad. Didn't the Patriots trade Kayshon Boutte because of all the WR depth? I know AJ Brown got injured, but the WR group looked non-existent. Doubs had 0 catches, where he even dropped one when he was wide open.

Drake needs to learn how to just throw the ball away. Too many times where we lose yards or turn it over because he refuses to just throw it to the bench.

Im also sick of teams sitting everyone all dam preseason and then its a shock when guys cant tackle or make dumb mistakes because they are just thrown in the fire

Maye?s FB IQ is terrible, as evidenced by his last two games. He won?t throw the ball away to avoid a sack, but he WILL throw the ball right at defenders at the worst possible times.

Star receiver down already, maybe for a long time. O-line still isn?t great, and the ?deep? receiver group is anything but.

Last season ended in embarrassment, and this season starts the same way. Can?t wait for the rest of this sub-.500, nonplayoff campaign.

It doesn't help that Maye again didn't play preseason. Why do they expect practice to get a guy ready? I expect another bad Maye game next week. But week three it will start clicking.

I am a firm believer starters should start every preseason game and play just the first quarter and then allow the backups to play. You can't replicate a game experience in practice you can only game plan.

Reminiscent of last season where they did not look ready for the start of the season.  When the Pats showed blitz, SEA/Lock just checked out and made a short play.  Lock played well.  And the Pats defense just kept doing the same thing.  The Pats/Maye just seemed to not know what to do vs blitzes.  Never seemed to check into the right play.

My main concern was the OL.  It wasn't that good.  OK in passing game (Maye was still sacked 3 times) but no run game.  If you take out Maye's scrambles, they averaged less than 2.6 yards/carry.  There was nothing there, ever.  I know that SEA is a good defense.  But that did not look good.

And yes, once AJ Brown was out, the receivers looked weak.  Mack Hollins was the best receiver.  Did Kyle Williams even play?  I think he returned a couple of kicks, but if he played receiver, I missed it.  Doubs 0 catches on 3 targets, and just didn't look connected at all.  Just kind or running around.

Terrible second half and mediocre first half for the Pats. But unlike the general theme here, I haven?t concluded that Maye is Bledsoe or Jones, and that the Pats are headed for a non-playoff season.  Bad first game like last year and abysmal game for Maye, no doubt.  But I agree with Csfan above that Maye will find himself as he did last year.  He makes mistakes but also shows tremendous talent. He does need a line that doesn?t leave him feeling vulnerable one beat after his stepback.  He seems to be in crisis mode almost immediately and wasn?t able to find receivers after buying himself a little time. That could be Maye, or could be receivers unable to shake defenders. Three INTs were all big mistakes by Maye - no doubt - but I haven?t given up on him.  He?ll grow - not necessarily in a straight line, but with steps backward and forward. 

And somehow that O-line needs to get better.

I thought Rhamondre looked pretty good and I think the O missed Henderson and of course AJ after he went out.  Hollins played well. Doubs muffed a ridiculously easy catch that could have influenced the outcome (next play was INT 2).

I have not given up on Maye either.  I still think he is a top QB for many years to come.  But this game was not good.  He under-threw AJ Brown on that play.  Had the 3 picks of course, and just didn't seem to be getting the team into the right plays or otherwise handle the pressure.

He didn't play all preseason.  I wonder about that.  Maybe that is fine for a vet, but would Drake Maye have been more ready for Game 1 if he had played a few quarters in the preseason?  Same for the OL.  Lot of young players on the OL and one new player (and a couple of vets also).  Hard to know of course.

All in all, to lose by 3 points to SEA on the road is not necessarily a problem.  The team just did not look good, look connected.  Not the OL, not Doubs and Maye, not Maye at all really.  The D held their own, one big play given up really (a textbook countermove to a pressure D formation).  Helped by several penalties, but not bad overall.

I really hate the shortened preseason and starters never playing during it. It turns Week 1 into a glorified preseason game. Neither team looked particularly good, and that's been a trend. I also wonder if there's anything particular with how Vrabel coaches that leaves them more unprepared in Week 1 than other teams, because we got embarrassed Week 1 last year, too. Maybe it's just youth, or from brinigng in new players in general, but whatever it is Vrabel needs to figure it out before next year (probably by playing some of these guys together in the dang preseason!)

I don't think I can comment on any of the Maye stuff without breaking forum rules, so I'll leave that alone except to say that he'll be fine.

Well, only way to go from here is up. Hopefully the Brown injury doesn't force him to miss significant time. Doubs...was a train wreck.

I thought the o-line did a decent job at pass protection in the first half. They couldn't get ANY space for Rhamondre to work. Jacas looked decent at stretches.

Maye...had his worst game as a pro. On to the next week. Unlike alot of QBs who kind of shrug these games off, Maye took ownership. It was a good sign for a young qb
