I really have no reason to feel this way except that his offensive numbers might be pushing his dollars a little higher than Ainge is willing to pay. I really want us to keep him for 6-7 m a year. Thoughts?

Not to sound cynical but I think Bradley will choose to sign with the highest bidder. Let's face it, he's not a Kevin Love or Lebron or Rondo, whom teams will line up for. On top of that, he's been injury prone as well. It wouldn't be shocking if this coming offseason (if he signs to a long term contract) might be the biggest payday of his career. Lets say he gets offered 7.5m/yr over 4 years. I don't think he'll turn that down, even if it was Charlotte.

Before the injuries, I would have tended to agree.  Now, I'm not sure if there will be any teams out there willing to go the extra year with him, or add a couple extra million onto his annual salary, to be enough for Danny to not match.

Personally, I think matching anything over 3 or 4 million per year would be a bad move on Danny's part, because I don't think it's good practice to give deals above that to role players, especially when the team is so far from contending.  I wouldn't be surprised if Bradley gets 3 or 4 years at 5-6 per, though.

Danny will probably overestimate his ability to trade Avery for value if he no longer fits the team's needs (see: Brandon Bass).
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Too many injuries and only offensively efficient in one year out of four. Undersized and proven not to be an effective combo guard.

I don't think any team offers him what Danny offered him this season, and if he does return it's for less than $5M per year. Backup SG money.

We can only hope that he's not with us next year.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Love Avery as the team's third guard of the future and I think that's about what he'll be paid. He has proven to be a capable scorer and coming off the bench allows him to do what he does best on defense. If somehow we do fill out the roster this summer with big signings and trades, using the full mle would seem to make the most sense.

Same here. Time for the Avery Bradley "era" here in Boston to come to an end.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I wouldnt mind not having him.

I enjoyed his elite defending, but I think that's all he has in NBA. His shooting is spotty and not to mention he's completely undersized for his position.

I wish him well if he goes somewhere else, but I'm ready to move on.

AB ..."was" a favorite Celtic for a while.

This was the defensive era specialist .  Game changer as a lock down defender.

This was where he hung his hat in the NBA......love his intensity. And bench contribution.

He doesn 't have the skill sets ,  finishing , passing,  etc......to be a starter .....too many weak areas.

If AB is not going to continue his defense and be a streak shooter lobbing brick s.......he needs to go.

I would rather the Celtics Invest big contract money on Waiters or Hayward .

Sorry....but I think it is better to cut our losses , offer him a very celtics favorable deal.......which he turn down and let him walk .......hire Hayward. This summer.

Hayward is a starter, and will be for years,  makes more sense in every way than AB.....especially with AB wanting so much money

AB as a defensive specialist off bench for 3 mill or let him go.

Cee ya

I feel though it kind of depends on who we draft. If we get a SF like a wiggins or Parker. keeping Bradley as your starting SG actually kind of makes sense as he can be a roleplayer

with Rondo/1st round draft pick/Sullinger your 1,2,3 in any order and bradley in the lance stephensen role

I wouldn't be surprised if he's gone -- S&T if some GM's foolish enough to overpay him.  AB's a decent guard to bring off the bench as pressure defender but he's not a starting-caliber SG.  thing is with AB even as the first guard off the bench, he can't come in for our next starting SG unless that player is a combo guard capable of running the offense with AB out there.  I'd love to get Exum since I think he would fit that role very well.

I think he stays on a relatively small contract given his RFA and the numbers thrown around here.

With his injuries and limitations I don't see him getting a big offer that would cause Ainge not to match. So like BBD and many other RFAs in the end it could just the C's bidding.

I agree. Avery's going for a big money contract and the C's likely won't be ready and willing to comply with that. Didn't we already offer him a solid extension that he turned down?

I think $3-4M per year for 3 years is where he's still a good value. $8-9M, where I think he sees himself, is laughable.

I like Avery, but his ball handling is putrid. A guard who cannot really handle the ball is frightening. He does several nice things, but he is too far from a stud 2 guard and incapable of being Rondo's backup at the 1.

Bradley is the basketball version of a loogy - a one-trick pony whose specialty is, allegedly, defense.

For eight or nine large a year?

Not today. Not ever.
