He was reported to be "in shape".  Was the possibility of signing him to a ten-day contract a factor in Brooklyn's decreased willingness to spend even more money and a second-round pick on Jordan Hill?

It makes a lot of sense for the Nets to sign Collins with Lopez out and now Evans gone. I'm surprised no contenders had picked him up yet.

Collins could also land with Clips. Doc did speak very highly of him last season.

So what?

As a 12th guy on the rotation, he is solid. If your teams big man needs a rest. He can fill in 5 to 10 minutes.
He can still give you a good run if you're gunning for the title.

Indiana should pick him up, so the Heat can't. LOL

Well, he is tall.  Some NBA GMs probably prefer him to a 6'9" shot-blocking center from the D-League who was never drafted and never had more than a ten-day contract.

He's a great locker room guy and can provide 10 mins of smart and physical basketball while more skilled players are playing.

I would also like to see him play as an active NBA gay player rather than [essentially] take the John Amaechi route. I realize this may mean little to others. My former point is certainly more important.

Just went to yahoo to read about Davis, saw a headline: "Openly gay Collins works out with Nets". Does that sound as asinine to everyone else as it does to me?

This.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

That's a pretty ridiculous headline. I am guessing they are assuming that the average person forgets who Jason Collins is (and forgets that he is gay). Sounds like they want to get as many hits as possible on the article (ie, not just your average sports fan reading it).

Yes, they want to suck in all the people who went to their site to look for figure skating results.

It's important because of Michael Smith and because there has yet to be an openly gay active player in the NBA.

If we want to be cheeky, you could say that they're trying to appeal to all American sports fans -- as a demographic that's notorious for paying lots of money to watch men handle balls.  :-*

That's why nobody has picked him up so far...As will be the case with Sam...Not because of the impact of the locker room..Which would be minimal at best..

But because state-controlled media will surround the facility like flies with an agenda that has nothing to do with basketball or football.  Any team that picks these guys up will be undermined by the media.

Jason Collins is one of the better big man one-on-one defenders in the league. He did pretty well for us even though I'm not a fan of his.

Well, I guess it's official...

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/jason-collins-returning-nba-news-212532353--nba.html

If you're not a fan of Kelly Dwyer or gay people in general, then you probably won't like the article, but I thought it was an interesting read.

While most people don't really care, it still means something - glad to see a solid player and openly gay man officially play in the nba.
