Apparently the Nets have decided to sell their season out to a state-controlled media circus.

There is nothing that a 12th man at-best can bring to the table that outweighs the shameless media circus that will ensue.

......With a shaky rookie coach to boot?

At best, it works out great

At worst, it works out for us.

I wonder, is the media state-controlled or is the state media-controlled?   ;)

Or neither...

Also, which state are we talking about here? Doesn't Prokhorov have pretensions for the Russian presidency?

Or... there will be a week or so of attention to a courageous man followed by business as usual when all of the Nets show that they are professional, mature men.  This will NOT be a circus, it will be a seamless and quiet breakthrough.

So... there will be a few days to a week of attention and then it will fade fast.

You really think so...in NY? Doubt it. I just hope every coaching decision dealing with Collins doesn't get put under the microscope. If he gets DNP's will it be questioned to no end?

This is the perfect team for Collins.  The Nets, since their shaky start (10-21), are locked in for a solid closing to the regular season (15-7 in 2014). There are so many solid vets on that team, and they won't allow any distractions.

After the Michael Sam news blitz, the Collins story will have a bit less media glare. The first three letters in news is new, and once Collins plays a few games, it won't be new anymore, and the  media glare will disappear.

Collins had his best years with the Nets, glad he'll (probably) finish his career there too.  And he's a good fit on Brooklyn, anybody playing with Thornton doesn't have to worry about getting shots up.

...if the Earth doesn't open up and swallow the team, of course.  ::)

Yes,I really think so. Obviously, I could be wrong, but I believe buzz around Jason Collins will subside dramatically soon after his first game appearance.

I am happy for Collins and I don't think someone's sexuality should matter or be a criteria of him getting a job or not... if you can do the job..

BUT, Collins can't play no more. When your best qualities as a basketball player are - good locker room guy and sets good picks - you know you are done. His defense was pretty good but has fallen off last couple of years and now it's only reputation.

We saw him last season, he can't help a contender. When you have an offensive liability like Collins on the floor, especially in the playoffs, you are playing 4 on 5. Nets should know that better than anyone, they had to play Wallace and/or Reggie Evans last season vs Bulls and Thibs completely ignored them on the floor.

This is 100% PR move, it's a great story but it won't bring anything but distraction to that team and it's not worth it. My prediction is he gets cut after 2nd 10 day contract.

have to disagree on that.  it'll be a media circus for the rest of the season and playoffs.  OR  until another active player comes out

There probably will be a local news story in each city  the Nets plays for the rest of the season, but the national media won't report much more of this story, unless there are incidents in various cities, pro and con.

Do we expect Sportscenter to report every night about Collins' seven minutes of action, one rebound, and three fouls?

Crazy. Who cares about the media circus? When teams were signing their first black players before, there was also a media circus and there was backlash. A media circus shouldn't preclude teams from signing players.
