I don't want to tank next season. I think it's a one-time thing. This is a top-heavy draft with a handful of guys who can be very special. It was a great year to bottom out. Taking advantage of Rondo's injury and a well-timed bailout by Brooklyn. This year it makes sense. I wouldn't have been in favor of tanking last season when the draft was supposed to be weak.
What if you became convinced that the top of the 2015 draft was going to be better than 2014? What if Parker and Embiid decided to wait a year to enter the draft? Can the values shift enough to change your mind?
Not being a pro- or anti- tanker, take my words with a grain of salt.
I've seen some pro-tankers who point to the OKC model.
My impression is that most expect a Bulls 08-09 type deal.
What Ainge has done outside of the scope of tanking is very overlooked, I feel, especially on here. Hiring Brad Stevens, Ron Adams, having a bunch of assets, draft picks out the wazoo, nice role players. There are no malcontents in the locker room. We have flexibility. Much as I would have liked to see Josh Smith on the roster, I'm also glad he's not eating up our cap for many many years.
Whether we grab Jabari or K-Love, or try to build like the Rockets, or spend 6 years in perennial lottery, trade Rondo, we're very much poised to be competitive very quickly. Dare I say more so than the above mentioned two teams.
