I try to strike a good balance of pragmatism and fatalism about the team, so I saw the possible advantages of trading Rondo, and knew that even if I didn't, there's nothing I could do about it anyway.

But I'm finding myself really happy that Rondo will be staying in green for at least the next few months.  He's the only link remaining to the last ring, and on a team with a long history of being led by career-long Celtics, the only guy left who's distinctly OURS as a star.

It's nice to know that no matter what else happens, we'll hang on to our one huge constant through a season defined by change.  Our time watching Rajon dishing out ridiculous dimes and dropping in impossibly angled layups, and yes, arguing incessantly about him here, is going to last at least a little while longer.  Welcome "back" Rondo, although you never really left.

Me too.  I like keeping a connection to the KG era.  Regardless of what happens over the remaining part of the season and regardless of where our draft pick lands, we should be a significantly improved team next year.

Having him here would make it a lot easier to attract other stars... if Ainge plans to follow the same path as 2007, having Rondo here to begin with will be a good thing.

Should be a crazy draft day.  Part of me still hopes we stink over the rest of the year so we can maximize our pick.  But if we sneak into the playoffs, so be it.  I think Rondo and Sully are nice pieces.  Those two are a nice start.

I'm just glad we didn't trade him for cents on the dollar.

There were a ton of crap trade rumors out there involving him.  Glad none came to fruition.

He's certainly not untouchable but don't trade him for for half his worth.   Danny recognizes this.  Unfortunately, there seems to be plenty of people on these boards that don't.

That's how I view it, but I'm not worried about making the playoffs even in this conference, we still have a flawed roster. My hope is we end up anywhere up to the 6th worst team in the league.. at that point, we either guarantee a top 3 pick or get lucky, draft Jabari (Embiid will go #1 and I doubt we get that pick), flip Green for assets on draft night, and at that point have Rondo, Parker, Sully core to attempt to attract a FA. If we can't get one, still a good core to move forward with, with tons of picks left

Me too.

It's better to have a pass-first, make my teammates better, elite, experienced, Champion-ship proven Player and PG on your team to draw the top talent.

I'm sure that KLove, LaMarcus, Noah and the Servant are paying attention :)

I can dream, right?

I can get excited about the idea of Rondo sticking around beyond this year, but only if Danny has a plan to get winning players here by next summer.  Rondo is a FA next July and he's getting close to 30, so the time to win is sooner rather than later.  The clock is ticking for Ainge to put a competitive roster in place that can win one or more playoff series in the East.

They're nice pieces, as a start.

I think you need two more pieces, on the level of Rondo and Sully or better, to really have something.  If the Celtics don't get one in the top 10 of the draft after spending all season sucking, that would be a blow.

Regardless of what happens over the remaining part of the season and regardless of where our draft pick lands, we should be a significantly improved team next year.

Significantly improved, sure.  Healthy Rondo, re-sign Bradley (or draft a decent SG), trade some of our future picks and salary filler to get a legit center (e.g. Asik) and you'd have a decent 40-something win team, probably.  My expectations for next year are fairly low, though.

If the pick ends up in the Top 5, we'll have a chance to be majorly improved this summer.

Who are you and what have you done with LB33?

Just kidding. I openly hope we don't win many games over the remaining 26 or so. I want a top pick no matter what our roster looks like.

Rondo, Sully and 2 players better than Rondo put you around the level of the Heat. It would be nice but you can't really count on that.

Depends on the player we get.

Embiid, Vonleh, Exum, Gordon . . . . I think any of those guys could be really good in a few years, but I don't know how much of an immediate impact any of them will make.

Parker, Wiggins, Smart, Randle -- those guys will probably produce a lot from the start.
