Agree, but at least LeBron had Bird.....HOWEVER....this self proclaimed King who might "have to move one of his four off" to be replaced by HIM, this self proclaimed NBA scion and "historian" didn't have Russ?

I just heard a Russ stat that I hadn't heard before on CSSNE: Russ was involved in 21 win or go home games in his career. His record in those 21 games?

That can't be right, Russell lost two playoff series, to the Hawks in 58 and the Sixers in 67.  So he obviously lost two "win or go home" games.  Did they mean Game 7s?


BTW RE: Dons' post - all 3 players had one "Pre Magic/Bird" guy on their lists.  It's not like they're ignoring those eras.

I didn't say they're flatout ignoring them.  I get the sense that a lot of players severely discount NBA history preceeding Bird/Magic/Jordan.

You know what's crazy? I had heard the quote, and I came into this thread absolutely ready to argue for a Jordan/Russell/Bird/Magic Rushmore. I mean, Jordan and Russell are self-explanatory, Magic revolutionized the point guard position and could play all 5 spots, and Larry Legend was arguably the best player in the league for a decade, which is not something a lot of players can say. But as I read through this thread and followed the arguments, I've got to say . . . I mean, I love Bird and Magic, but I'm now convinced they're just slightly below the cut of Rushmore.

So, mine is Russell/Wilt/Kareem/MJ, with a secondary Rushmore of Bird/Magic/Robertson/West

I'd have a coolness one with Iverson saying "We talkin bout practice? How silly is that" and Tommy saying "You gotta be kidding me!" and a Rodman saying something like "They didn't have a problem with me being wild and crazy when it came time to fill arenas" and one of Dr J.

Also my Mount Rushmore isn't carved in stone or anything. Just like how the real Mt Rushmore should have that bum Thomas jefferson replaced with Reagan you could change mine every couple years.

Mt Rushmore has the two important founding fathers:

Jefferson - the theory guy
Washington - the execution guy

Then it has:

Lincoln - hold it together guy, i.e. lead us out of darkest days

Then it has Teddy Rooz - i.e. the over rate modern guy (modern to the people working on it) who has aged poorly.

So I'll go with:

Wilt and Russell - Wilt is the flash (theory) but Rusell is winning (execution)

MJ = Honest Abe - he combines the flash and winning and is the transition from the golden age to the modern era

Gary Payton can be Teddy... thought he was the next great thing, but overall has lost significance as time has gone by.
