I think Mannix is trying to prepare the tankalicious crowd for the surprise of their lives when the trade deadline comes and goes and the team is constructed exactly the way it is right now.

Danny Ainge does not make trades to have an end objective of losing games in the here and now. He won't do it. He makes trades to win for other objectives like long term assets, lower salary and better talent. He doesn't trade to lose games. If he wanted that he would simply tell Stevens to sit Rondo, Bradley, Sullinger, Bass and Green for the rest of the year and play everyone else.

No, the trade deadline is probably going to be very quiet in Boston and I think some of those in the know are just trying to let those who believe tank management is going to happen know that tank management isn't going to happen.

worst kept secret in the NBA is that Love is signing in LA after next year. so count me as doubtful the Cs could keep him if they did trade for him.

- Says he talked to a bunch of GM's and C's overvalue their talent, teams around the league don't want to give up a 1st for Bass or Green

- Says teams other than contenders wouldn't take on their salaries because of Kevin Love being  a free agent in 2015, I would throw Melo and Marc Gasol in there too

I don't see why it would ever have made any sense for a non-contender to give up assets for Bass (or probably Green) unless they were unloading a larger contract or have personnel issues (Cleveland).

In general I don't see it as overvaluing their assets as much as not being under duress to trace them. Danny doesn't *have* to trade Bass or Green, so if teams call to ask about them he might as well set a decent price. He can always call that team back and lower his price if he chooses.

Right, the C's have no need to trade those guys.  In fact, it could actually put them at a disadvantage from a team building standpoint, because they will be losing two very valuable contracts for matching for trades next year.  Unless they can get real assets back, there is no point in trading away Green and Bass now.

Just like the worst kept secret was that Lebron was signing in NY a few years ago.  And signing with Cleveland this summer.

Also, I can't help but mention my bias against anything Mannix says.  He is a decent writer, but when it comes to inside information about the C's, he is always sorely lacking, yet because of his Boston media connections, he is always interviewed as an "insider" and basically just makes stuff up, and presents his wild guesses as if they are actual rumors.

Celtics should deal Rondo there for that lottery pick the Lakers get. Exum is going to be the real deal. Although I do get a little concerned that he never played college ball.

We absolutely shouldn't sell low on Bass. Its not like he has a bad contract...and it also expires after next season. I get that he isn't optimal to our current situation (a rebuild), but if we don't get something good for him, why trade him? I don't think Bass alone makes the difference between us getting a top 5 pick vs. a top 10 pick (luck also matters a lot with those ping pong balls).

I understand this stance and will be surprised to see a "fire sale", but I would be even more surprised to see the deadline pass and not a single move is made.

If Charlotte calls and proposes something like this,

Ben Gordon, Brandon Haywood, 2014 POR first rounder

for

Brandon Bass and Jeff Green

I think Ainge would strongly consider it because he grabs a first rounder, shaves $17mill off the payroll for each of the next two seasons, and improves his lottery position.
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

Should we just nicely ask the other teams to not draft him until it's our turn to pick?

Do your sources indicate that Brandon Bass will be traded? he could be a good role player for a number of teams. who do your sources indicate have interest?

12:29 FOX Sports Ohio: All I've heard on Bass is yes ... and the Warriors. Although one GM said he's heard the Thunder, too, which I found interesting.

hmmmm

well okc has a 6.5 mil trade exception from kevin Martin

Guess we could get that and one of the last picks in the 1st rd for Bass?

But then we'll just be stuck being a treadmill lottery team.  You know, the type that can never get out of the lottery.  That's the worst place you can ever be.   Just ask Cleveland.

Cleveland is an interesting team to bring up.  There issue, IMO, is not being stuck in the lottery.  It is bad luck (with LBJ) and bad management I suppose.  I mean, they have had the #1 pick in the draft THRE times for goodness sake.  ANd they have had sveral top five picks.  This team should be much better than it is but it's not.

I think, if placed in the same situation, with the same picks, DA would have the Celts in a much better position by now.

would love to give up Bass to get Harrison Barnes...that then makes either Green/Wallace expendable

on danny overvaluing his players? like someone else said - "everyone does it". and I wouldn't expect ainge to be asking teams to give up a bad contract in return or a late 2nd rounder.

I do believe bass and green could be worth a late 1st or an expiring contract from a playoff contender. not exactly sure what they expect to get in return for either as there simply aren't a lot of sellers out there.

I do find it interesting that we 1st hear jeff green's being shopped heavily, only to hear we want to build around green, sully & rondo later on.

my take is danny messed up here by showing his hand to early and the "we want to build around jeff green" statement is damage control.

or the rumor that jeff green being shopped heavily is just that a rumor. and it's actually other teams with heavy interest in jeff green and ainge is "asking too much" telling teams we want to build around jeff green, it would take a 1st or expiring contracts for us to let him go.

No doubt DA would do better. An interesting story from Wojo on how bad the Cavs GM was:

Lol.. "shouldn't sell low on Bass".   This isn't low.  He's playing as well as he's ever played.  Ultimately, Bass should be a backup big.  He was brought in here to replace Glen Davis off the bench... not be our starting PF.  If we can get anything of value for him, it's a win.
