After seeing a dizzying array of questionable hater trade ideas (and homer responses) about Rondo over the past couple of months, then reviewing Jeff's recent article "I hate all your Rondo trade ideas", I believe its time to ask a simple question of csbloggers than doesn't allow for variation or substitutions as a measuring stick.
Assume you're Danny Ainge. This spring, the team that wins the lottery calls you and offers the #1 pick in the 2014 draft for Rondo. That team has the cap space to absorb Rondo's deal straight up, so it's a direct swap with no other contracts, players, picks, anything. Also, you've already talked to Rondo's agent, and he's agreed to do a contract extension to keep him in green. The numbers are incidental to this -- the point is the Cs have security that Rondo would stay if they keep him.
Do you take it?
Two caveats:
1) DO NOT hide behind your love or hate for the 2014 draft. If you're willing to vote here, then presumably you're a good enough armchair GM to find one truly great player in this draft somewhere, regardless of which way you're leaning.
2) It makes no different WHO you would draft. Your preference to one player over someone else's to another is really not important. The point of this exercise, as far as I'm concerned, is for folks to value and acknowledge their belief in Rondo as the cornerstone of the Celtics future.
I encourage my fellow bloggers to avoid long responses, that can be quoted on top of each other over and over again, leading to sarcastic low blows. Just vote, then acknowledge in response against your own handle, if you care to go on record personally.
Thank you! I hope others will find this as interesting as I believe I will.
