After seeing a dizzying array of questionable hater trade ideas (and homer responses) about Rondo over the past couple of months, then reviewing Jeff's recent article "I hate all your Rondo trade ideas", I believe its time to ask a simple question of csbloggers than doesn't allow for variation or substitutions as a measuring stick.

Assume you're Danny Ainge. This spring, the team that wins the lottery calls you and offers the #1 pick in the 2014 draft for Rondo. That team has the cap space to absorb Rondo's deal straight up, so it's a direct swap with no other contracts, players, picks, anything. Also, you've already talked to Rondo's agent, and he's agreed to do a contract extension to keep him in green. The numbers are incidental to this -- the point is the Cs have security that Rondo would stay if they keep him.

Do you take it?

Two caveats:

1) DO NOT hide behind your love or hate for the 2014 draft. If you're willing to vote here, then presumably you're a good enough armchair GM to find one truly great player in this draft somewhere, regardless of which way you're leaning.

2) It makes no different WHO you would draft. Your preference to one player over someone else's to another is really not important. The point of this exercise, as far as I'm concerned, is for folks to value and acknowledge their belief in Rondo as the cornerstone of the Celtics future.

I encourage my fellow bloggers to avoid long responses, that can be quoted on top of each other over and over again, leading to sarcastic low blows. Just vote, then acknowledge in response against your own handle, if you care to go on record personally.

Thank you! I hope others will find this as interesting as I believe I will.

Yes, I do it.

A franchise guy is to be grabbed with the #1 pick this year.  Under the assumption that the Celtics are also keeping their own first rounder, that's 2 top 10 draft picks.  Possibly even 2 top 5 picks depending on how the ping pong balls fall.

Draft Parker/Embiid/Wiggins with the first overall pick.  Top echelon SFs and/or C are much more difficult to find these days.  The PG pool is much greater with depth at the NBA level.

I think this is an easy yes. A 20 year old potential franchise talent on a cost-controlled contract just has more value than Rondo.

Donoghus -- vote!

I'd like to see a hearty turn out in the vote section, if possible.

Yes. I'd trade Rondo and Green for the first.

I think it's a no brainer. We would get an elite prospect as well as about $8 MM in cap space. Suddenly we could add a top notch near max level free agent to go along with our two lottery picks.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Does this trade come with a time machine, so that we can ensure we pick the 'right' player?

I'd hate to trade Rondo for the next Kwame Brown.

Nope -- just as it doesn't come with any guarantees on Rondo's health, production, or success.

Why would they given the nature of your post and the general consensus in this thread?

I mean eventually one will pop in because they're up for a fight but till then....

what is the extension that Rondo agreed to?  Full max, near max, or similar to what he is currently signed on for.  I would still trade him for the #1, but it might affect what others do.
