Are we really going there? So now 10-day contract Johnson is Green with better hustle, rebounding, and passing? Green had a bad game, I get it, but call me the next time Johnson puts up 39 points or leads his team in scoring over the course of a season. I understand that Green isn't perfect, but I think we should let Johnson play a full season before we declare him a better version than Green...or AB, for that matter.

Of course, JG being 4 inches taller and bigger makes him a lot more talented. No doubt. Far better. I've watched his huge games and very few could do what he does.

The disparity in their talent is not lost on me (at least I think not).

Despite the very considerable difference in talent (one being a lottery pick and potential star, one being a D-league call up), however, there are similarities in their skill sets and limitations. Their limited ball handling sticks out to me.

Which is why it's frustrating to see the more talented guy not do the little things that other guys do. My point is it's not a matter of skill but hustle and heart.

When JG doesn't score, he does't do much else. Hustling for rebounds and making plays on D would be nice.

When teams scout Johnson the way they scout Green now, Johnson could very well fizzle into obscurity. But there's no quick get around when you fight for rebounds and make it tougher on your opponent. They may close out on Chris Johnson better after learning his tendencies but they can't stop him from being in the thick of rebounding battles.

It's frustrating seeing JG flirt with but ultimately failing to take the next step. The 4, 5 game stint where JG had at least 5 rebounds gave me hope. Now he's regressed. Even Stevens notes JG plays better when he's aggressive on the boards.

It's not like I'm detracting JG's value. Quite the opposite. As is right now he's a good player but you can't help but hope for more.

I like his hustle, doesn't always work out but he plays hard. He reminds me of a young Avery Bradley.

Chris Johnson is older by a few months haha.

Wondering....What does a 10 day contract pay?

Spotrac.com says Johnson is earning $46,404 on his 10-day deal.

I'm sure the holes in his game will become more evident the more we see him, but why not?  He's not hurting them and they need bodies.

Johnson is 6'5 but having 6'10 wingspan really helps him be a good defender. That block on joe johnson near the end was sweet. He also helps out reboundimg unlike both ab and green

Should sign him for rest of the year.

His averages are pretty impressive when you think about him being a d-league call up. Nearly 10 points a game, 3 rebounds and 1 assist a game. I like his heart

In his tiny four-game sample, he has the highest win share per 48, TS%, eFG% and offensive rating--but lowest TO%--on the team.

Good luck with this one.  Been ignoring most of the Green posts, I guess people haven't been watching games.  39 points just the other day and "he's been lost of games and games now"  ::)

Dare I say it's that he's capable of 39 -- yet mails it in most of the time without the least sign of regret -- that bothers a fair number of posters, myself included. Not that #UncleSnoozeButton has anything to do with Chris Johnson.

I'm trying not to get to excited about the kid, but he really plays well. Much better than Blue that got called up.

He's not the defender AB is, but he's really solid, and would make moving AB if he's not willing to take a reasonable deal.

Now Im still not sure if he's a full time starter, or good at filling in. But at the very least he could be a great back up SG. Especially if he could average 10ppg like he has since he's been here.

I think this is a no-brainer. The kid is busting his but with good results. I think Danny should reward him for his effort. There is nothing to lose, anyway.

Both Bayless and Bradley are out and we need a spare for a while since the guard depth from before is gone.

I agree with that.

Chris Johnson is leading the teams in SPG and BPG, I think that is funny and sad all at once.  He is also leading the team in 3 point shot attempts, but hitting at just 29.4% which is awful.  Needs to stop shooting the 3's.

As for the topic, of course you re-sign him to at least a 10 day contract if not a full season pick up.  He has certainly played well enough to deserve that.  As for all the talk about Bradley and Green, that is just silly.  Johnson has played a total of 12 NBA games and just 4 this year.  Let's see what happens over the course of regular minutes for the rest of this season before we start talking about how good this kid is.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I like what he offers.  Could probably give  you 3rd string sf minutes as well.  I don't think we need to think will he be starter material.  I'm still not sold on bradley being starter material.

I can see a future Kawhi Leonard in CJ.  If he can even come close to Leonard he'll be a great signing.

Yes re-sign him, but please... can we stop having such ridiculous expectations on the kid... Expecting him to come out from being a 10-day contract, and exploding as a starter replacing Bradley?

Johnson can be a great and special player, I like what I see from him. He plays smart, hustles hard, and seems to take smart shots. The threes he took seemed a tad bit short, but once he gets more confidence and experience, I can see him knocking them down.
