I just remember all the whiners and haters making fun of  Sully to start his career.......he couldn't do nothing right according to some fans .   Nothing but negativity. And complaining ......wee. Wee. Wee.....moan moan moan .....

People expect every player to be James or MJ .......we have not been getting lottery picks lately.

Common sense comes with age .

People expect too much too soon.

Were there really a lot of people here complaining about Sullinger? I just don't remember that.

Keep the development going.  He's going to be graded hard by this blog like he's played in the league for the last 5 years, but can't wait to see the kid develop his game in the upcoming years.  He's got a chance to be pretty darn good.

Nice breakout game by Olynyk.

I would be totally psyched if we had the next Divac/Odom on our hands.  And the thing is he can shoot too.  But if he doesn't have the shot he will make the extra pass to get someone else open.

Hopefully KO can reach his ceiling cos it's really a nice ceiling. A skilled shooting/passing big with high BBIQ.

Olynyk beats up on bad teams.  The Lakers, Hawks, Pistons, Jazz and Magic are his only games with 14+ points and he killed it in the D-League.  So why not use him as the first 7 ft six man?  He could just come up and light up everyone's bench.  He is a good enough passer that even if he wasn't scoring, he could still keep the ball flowing through him

There has already been Lamar Odom.

A player I have thought of in comparison, as well as Vlade.

Anyways though, it's his rookie year and all this experience is valuable.  Lets not talk as if he is some type of player that won't improve after his rookie year.

My hope is that he, yes, comes off the bench.  Hopefully we have Sully and a Center, and then Olynyk will be very valuable coming in and being able to play both positions.

Yeah, there were quite a few people that didn't like the Sully pick and road DA for it until he started to play well. Then when he hurt his back they started to come back and ride DA again for that pick.

But now they're just being quite again because he came back and is playing well again.

Perspective:

First, There is no way I am going to take anything away from him for this game because it was excellent. And, he is a very good passer for a big man.

Second -- He was guarded by Ryan Kelly most of the night who he outweighs by about 50 pounds. Honestly, Ryan Kelly could not guard anyone. And during parts of the game he was being guarded by 6-7 Wesley Johnson.

Third -- The Lakers right now are the worst defensive team in basketball, playing with a lot of D-league caliber players. Coming into last night they were giving up 117 points a game in January.

Fourth -- for most of the game his defense continued to be terrible, although he did do a good job on Gasol toward the end of the game.

I look at this as a confidence builder and hopefully he will continue to improve. But, he had one of these games about a month ago and then regressed back to what he had been doing before. I think he is a career second or third guy off the bench at best. Hope I am wrong.

There's some tremendous misinformation here.

First, the Lakers play at a fast speed and thus have high-scoring games, but they've been middle-of-the-pack, like the C's, in shot percentage allowed.

Second, KO measured all of one inch taller and six pounds heavier than Kelly pre-draft last year.

Third, once again, KO had a positive +/- for a game the C's lost.

As I've said in the past, Kelly is a very skilled player, and given his size that makes him a long term asset.

I believe his shooting will come along eventually, and he'll also develop his body a bit more.

That said, I agree with others that he projects as a really nice 3rd big who can play either spot and complement our starters.

Remain in the "solid bench player" group. Superb passer, always has been. Played point in HS...etc. Parents were coaches/refs etc...Has text book shooting form when he employs it.

Not strong. Not fast. Be calm now, those two assets are needed in the NBA.

He will improve and become an even more solid bench player.

Good Lord, Gentlemen, calling the Lakers defense a "defense" is an insult to the concept.

Kelly did well against Kaman and Gasol yesterday. Obviously players with more size and length

Really like the running hook shot in the third. If he can get that going , it will be a nice weapon to have. He has long strides so he will be able to shock the defender. Looks like Tommy taught him this one

He has to post up from the right side of the basket almost everytime from now on. That way he can utilize his running hook , go to the left driving into the basket. This way he doesn't expose his avg wingspan (helps lengthen it actually). If he posts up from the left side, all he can do is, turnaround baby hooks (expose mediocre wingspan, and get blocked), or with his left hand drive to the middle of the basket, switch to his right hand for the shot and make easier to getting blocked

i have been an olly supporter on a consistent basis. he had a wonderful game against a bad team, which is more than we can say about most of the celtics last night.

i agree with most of the points above about olly's offense. everyone knew he could score, but his passing is better than advertised.

the two big questions initially about him were (1) defense and (2) rebounding.

on rebounding, he has been better than expected. a pleasant surprise. he is not a mobile, athletic, strong forward who will simply power his way to rebounds. but he uses position and height and is doing well.

defense? if he can consistently play adequate team defense it will be enough to make him a good nba player. but he is slow, especially laterally.

watch him play defense and he usually plays way off his man. why? because olly cant catch up with his man's first step, or second or third for that matter. so olly plays off the offensive player to compensate. even then, they often blow by him.

he is slow on defense. but he is smart enough that within a good team defense he can do all right.

i think he will have a good career coming off the bench and i hope the celtics can hang onto him for many years.

25 points, 7 assist off the bench for our rookie.  C'mon y'all...

It's because we want to see him do it again.

Honestly great game by the kid. I haven't seen a big man pass like that since Marc Gasol

This. I was more impressed with the passing than the scoring. He just had one of those nights against a weak front court but not any big man can dish out a bunch of assists. Good to see. Keep it up KO
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Any Rookie who puts up games like Olynyk has of 21 points here, then 25 points there, is a good player - I don't care which NBA team it's against.

Joe Johnson did the same thing his rookie year - he'd show you little flashes of where he was likely to go. I'm not saying Kelly will average 20 a game or even 15 a game, who knows. But will he be an effective NBA big man as a role player - 100% yes, he's already showing us that.

As someone else mentioned, he's a very hard worker and has a great attitude. He will probably hit the weights extremely hard this summer under the guidance of some of the best trainers in the world and come back much stronger and probably a bit quicker than he is now.

The same can be said of Jared Sullinger. He played half a season last year and has played half a season this year. You could therefore argue that he is just completing his Rookie season and he's put up games of 21 & 11, 25 and 20, 24 & 11, etc. He is showing you flashes of where he will go with improved conditioning and more experience which generally brings consistency with young guys like he and Olynyk who have their heads on right with regards to the work and the game...

I'm bullish on both. KO's defense will improve with strength and experience. Remember. he doesn't have to be lighting quick - he's a seven footer. He has to be in the right position most of the time and play as big and long as he can.

As someone also mentioned - a true center and a great wing player - look out.

Oh yeah. Right. The Lakers are loaded with talented guys who play lock down defense.  ::)

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
Olynyk played great yesterday he knocked down jumpers, scored inside when they put smaller guys on him and always found the open guy. Between sully rondo and KO the cs are going to share the ball excellently.

On defense he needs to anticipate rotations better but he did a good job pushing gasol out, making things more difficult for Him.

I still think him and sully both would play better next to a shot blocking athletic big.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
