Terrible trade. DA traded a solid nba player for a scrub and 2 picks who probably won't make our team or even be better than Crawford. I think we have enough draft picks let's
Start acquiring some actual talented players. I was hoping for Crawford to be used in a larger package deal for a quality player. This is proof Ainge is tanking and playing the draft pick card. Very disappointed. Can't wait to be terrible for a 5th overall pick and draft another Jeff green like player. Not a fun of just dumping players for meh draft picks

You realize he got Crawford last year for a backup center who's out of the league and a guy with an expiring contract and a torn ACL, right?  Crawford's value simply wasn't that high.  What Ainge essentially did was trade two expiring contracts this year to add $3.8 million in salary next year for the price of a minimum of three second round picks.  Crawford was never staying in Boston beyond this year, and NBA GM's weren't fooled by his player of the week award.  As some CB posters (myself included) have been saying all year long, the Celtics aren't going to be a big player in free agency next year, unless it's through a sign-and-trade.  So what Ainge just did was acquire things the are useful in sign-and-trades, expiring contracts and draft picks, for things that were this time last year worthless.  And if there's no sign-and-trade, he still gets the draft picks.  It was a good move.

If it turns into 2 early second rounders, it could be packaged to move into the late 1st round...or used to pull up a 24 + 33 + 34 for 17 (Tyler Zeller) kind of trade that the Cavs pulled off a year or two ago.

My hope is that the 76ers improve next year and make the playoffs. It's a shame the 76ers aren't doing too well this year.

I have the opposite view.  I thought it would be very hard for Ainge to turn Crawford into something more than a second-round pick and an expiring contract, even when he was player of the week, so I am pleased with the return in this trade.

So I am guessing we have to keep Anthony for the rest of the year at least.  We can't just ship him off in another trade?

Not a terrible trade at all. Jordan Crawford is a terrible player however. So he is putting up 13 and 6 on a terrible team playing what, 35 to 40 minutes a night? Big whoop. Like people have said this is a guy that Washington gave away. The league isnt dumb, they arent going to trade an all star as part of a crawford trade. Crawford is fun to watch when he is streaking but man is he a pain when is just playing average. Pounds the ball into the floor, takes too many shots/wild ones at that, and doesnt efficiently run an offense.

Plus he probably would have tried to command 5 to 6 mil next year anyway. Why would we pay that money for him? Plus, where does he play when Rondo comes back with Bayless and Pressey on the depth chart already? If he isnt part of our future and is just going to cost money we dont wanna give him, why not get an extra draft pick in return for him.

He can be traded before the deadline, but his contracts can't be aggregated with other contracts for the purpose of matching salary under trade rules.

We can, but you realize that Miami just gave us draft picks for taking his contract, right?  Anthony has negative value right now.  Better to keep him until that value is nearer to zero.  There's no rush.

Doesn't this free up another roster spot?

Not saying it's happening... but it seems to open up the possibility of a 5-for-3 trade that includes Rondo, Wallace and Bass.  There's a few different destinations that make sense to me... PIstons (with their two big expiring contracts + Monroe and Caldwell-Pope) ... The Kings pu-pu platter that includes Ben McLemore and picks.   The Bobcats with Gordon/Sessions expiring + Biyombo, MKG and Walker...

Certainly others as well...

but I think if Rondo is traded, having open spots is going to be key.  I say there's a 50/50 shot it happens... we're tied for the 3rd worst record in the league in a major draft.  Rondo's return will be a major turning point in Celtic history.  Which path do we take?  NO guarantee either way, honestly.

And they just might. They'll have Noel back, Carter-Williams will only get better, Young, and they'll add a #1 pick this summer. Hopefully they use their immense cap space to add a player through free agency.

Well, negative value for Miami, due to their roster construction and luxury tax status.

To a team that has an overabundance of guards and little frontcourt depth, Anthony could be of value.

I think this trade says more about our intentions to trade Anthony around the draft. Can we attach Bogans' nonguaranteed deal and Anthony's expiring to get something of reasonable value, or will Bogans be off the books entirely by then?

We could trade Bogans and Anthony as late as training camp.  Bogans is non-guaranteed all next year (and all the year after, but that's really not happening).

important question(s)
would crawford have come off bench as combo guard?
would he resign with boston?
would we have good crawford or bad crawford (who we've seen more of lately)

Sadly, your perception just doesn't match the reality. Crawford plays 30 minute a night (posting 14 and 6 in the process). That's on track to post 18/8 if he did indeed play 40 minutes a night -- just in case you wondered :P

...Crawford is a terrible player, though. And he was a bad teammate from an objective perspective. Anyone who watched a game realized that Crawford was not in the long term plans for a competitive team. He shot more shots than everyone on the team other than Bradley and Green--that could explain for his high point totals.

He averaged the most TOs on the team, and his FG percentage had dropped to just 1 pt higher than Bayless' on the season. I think you're giving the dude too much credit. A lot of players' stats look great when spread out over 40 minutes.
