Don't know what there's to hate about this deal .DA just traded 2 guys he barely gave up anything for what could be a solid first round pick either this year or next. Worst case, we get 2 very early 2nd rounders.

As for Joel Anthony, quite honestly, I don't think it matters whether he picks up his option or not. If he doesn't, great. If he does, he's an expiring contract. It's not like the C's are gonna be big players this offseason in FA as it currently stands.

So Ainge traded Barbosa and Collins (now out of the league) to get Crawford.  And then Crawford + Brooks (a throw in, bench guy) for a potential 1st rounder.

Danny is slick.

GRADE:  A

Pretty good. They are not part of the long term plan. Great job also of sending brooks for assignment and inflating his value

Brooks was simply included to make the salaries work.  Anthony made too much money for Boston to take him for Crawford straight up.  GSW taking Brooks meant that they got to upgrade from Douglass to Crawford without having to pay anything else.

I feel the same way, I think it's a win win situation for all 3 teams.

GS gets an upgrade, Heat shed salaries so they can pitch more money at their big 3, we get more assets in return (a potential 1st rounder and if Joel Anthony opts out!)

just dont like this trade... trading 2 expiring deals for a player the Celtics dont want and have to hope he doesnt excerise a 3.8mil option next year..

Then have to rely on the 76ers to make the plyoffs either this or next year..

Im not sure what will happen but if one of the 2 things happen it wont be a bad deal and if both happen its a great deal however its still a big risk when both would have just walked or trade Crawford for a super late 1st or 2nd heads up..
This is how I feel.  Crawford and Brooks were expiring anyway.  Not sure if taking on Joel Anthony is worth 2 second rounders.

It's either 3 second rounders or one 1st and one 2nd.

I think this deal confirms that Danny is looking to add star talent before/during next season, not at any point this year.

And we've added still more assets - depending on Philly we're up to like 9/10 1sts over the next 5 drafts, with 4-6 2nds?  Something like that.  Lots to offer teams willing to sell.

I just read Kevin O'Connor's article/analysis on the trade and I don't get why he assumes Joel Anthony will not pick up his $3.8M player option for next year.  Kevin even refers to Anthony as a "stiff center" in this article, so why does he believe that Anthony would opt out?  He's not going to get more money out on the open market, so I'm think he picks up his option.

Can anyone explain O'connor's logic, please?

I could see Danny offering Anthony a Bogans-type deal where he passes on the option for a bigger 1-year salary as filler for a larger trade.

But I don't see Joel passing on that payday himself unless he's really motivated to find a contender.

Terrible trade. DA traded a solid nba player for a scrub and 2 picks who probably won't make our team or even be better than Crawford. I think we have enough draft picks let's
Start acquiring some actual talented players. I was hoping for Crawford to be used in a larger package deal for a quality player. This is proof Ainge is tanking and playing the draft pick card. Very disappointed. Can't wait to be terrible for a 5th overall pick and draft another Jeff green like player. Not a fun of just dumping players for meh draft picks

This + the Keith Bogans issue makes me think Ainge's angle was to free up time for Bogans. I feel like Bogans issued the ultimatum "play me or waive me". My feeling is that Ainge wants to keep Bogans contract to combine with another player this season or in the off season.

He has something up his sleeve and I wouldn't be surprised of this is a precursor to something bigger.

Or Bogans really could just have a family issue haha

I think if Anthony gets a lot of minutes for us and performs well he might opt out--but I don't see that happening.

If he is a stiff center, then he will not command more than 3.8 on the open market you're correct.

I don't get the logic in thinking he'll opt out of a guaranteed contract that's better than the minimum he'll be getting otherwise. He's already 31....

Actually, if you were paying attention, this was the proof that Ainge was tanking:

Also, as far as the players go, I imagine all of them gotta feel positive about where they're headed.

Except for Joel Anthony.

Look at it this way, the guard rotation a couple weeks ago was Crawford-Bradley-Lee-Pressey-Brooks and now its Rondo-Bradley-Bayless-Pressey-Bogans. That's a fairly significant upgrade I would say.
Yeah,  but we didn't have to trade for Rondo.  That's the only upgrade as far as I'm concerned.

You realize he got Crawford last year for a backup center who's out of the league and a guy with an expiring contract and a torn ACL, right?  Crawford's value simply wasn't that high.  What Ainge essentially did was trade two expiring contracts this year to add $3.8 million in salary next year for the price of a minimum of three second round picks.  Crawford was never staying in Boston beyond this year, and NBA GM's weren't fooled by his player of the week award.  As some CB posters (myself included) have been saying all year long, the Celtics aren't going to be a big player in free agency next year, unless it's through a sign-and-trade.  So what Ainge just did was acquire things the are useful in sign-and-trades, expiring contracts and draft picks, for things that were this time last year worthless.  And if there's no sign-and-trade, he still gets the draft picks.  It was a good move.

This underestimates the personalities of Crawford and Bayless. Bayless seems like a professional and reasonably good teammate. Crawford was a liability and prone to demonstrative exhibitions of displeasure when his teammates made mistakes.

I think this team is in a better spot because of the last two trades, accumulated the possibility of three first rounders rather than two in one of the next two drafts, and opens up more playing time for a young guy in Pressey who they may want to keep on as a backup PG assuming he finds a shooting touch.

i'm assuming Crawford is this "solid nba player" you are talking about?

if so then you probably stopped watching the C's after Crawford won EC player of the week. because since then he has been horrible and a direct reason why our offense has gone downhill.

unless you prefer your "solid nba players" to chuck up contested jumpshots early in the shot clock and forget there are other players on the team.

I know everyone tends to think we're in full on tank mode but I look at this as a direction in the other way.
