who cares about his trade value, we're keeping him. you dont trade away every piece on a team, youll never stick with a core to build with.

I care, because it seems like everyone who talks about how we should keep Rondo because we won't get a fair value for him declines to define exactly what "fair value" is.

You know, kind of like what you're doing right now.

Fair value for me would be something like Rondo and a couple 1st rounders for Steph Curry

If you are looking for specific names, I will disappoint, but to me "fair value" is a player who has already proven that he can play NBA basketball on the level of Rajon Rondo.

I'm not reading a lot of realistic Rondo trade scenarios that include such a player in return.

Fair value for me for Rondo is a high value prospect (think Hayward, Monroe) and cap relief. Maybe not Wallace level cap relief, but eating Bass's contract.

Or, a lightly protected lotto pick, preferably unprotected for a team that'll land in the top 11 in the lottery.

don't see how the D league really strengthens trade value. Most would be curious as to how Rondo adjusts to playing actual NBA talent. As you see Brooks tearing up down there but lets see him do that on the actual stage. It is totally different.

On the fair value thing. It is safe to assume that Ainge doesnt feel that he has been offered fair value as Rondo has not been traded and is almost nearing end of his contract, which brings me to another thing...

Most teams would not only be hesitant in giving up a good haul for Rondo because if they dont get a commitment that he will resign then they would have given up assets for naught. So I think teams are considering both health and contract situation, which makes getting fair value back not as easy.

I'll be happy to define what I want back in a trade for Rondo.  I want a player or players who will combine for a greater than 50% chance of at least two All-Star appearances in the next five seasons.

I don't see rondo going anywhere. we will keep him and sully to build around. hopefully KO pans out so we can keep him as a role player. Other than that everyone else is expendable. Will green stay? who knows?

We should keep Rondo unless we're trading him for a player who's probably going to dominate in the playoffs like Rondo does when he's healthy, who's still relatively young.

This team is rebuilding - this is true.

However, in today's NBA (and even in past NBA years) it generally takes 2-3 stars on a team to genuinely compete for a title.

Wade+Lebron+Bosh Heat
Westbrook+Durant+Harden Thunder
Duncan + Parker+Ginobilli Spurs
Paul+Kevin+Ray Celtics
Kobe+Gasol+Bynum Lakers
Kobe+Shaq Lakers
Shaq+Wade Heat
Jordan+Pippen Bulls
Wallace+Hamilton+Billups Pistons

The list goes on

We already have one star in Rondo - no matter what anybody says, he is a Star player.  That means as long as we keep Rondo we are at best one (at worst two) stars away from being a contender.

If we trade Rondo for cap relief we are then best case two (worst case three) stars from being a contender.  Even if we use that cap space to acquire a Star, we are back where we started and still need to find one or two addittional stars.

Rondo is one of the few players in the league with a truly unique skill set - there is no other player like him in the league.  Trading him makes little sense unless it's to a team that is willing to significantly overpay for him, which is unlikely  Rondo is probably worth more to Bostonright now than to any other team.
