Not sure what this is referencing... but Jeff Green is actually a very efficient player with good shot selection. The biggest issue with him is that he does not shoot the ball enough, does not drive to the hoop enough, is not aggressive enough on offense. kind of the opposite of Rudy Gay who is black hole with a horrible offensive efficiency, but is very aggressive looking for his own shot.

agreed. + he does not demand the ball! if you are the first option on a team (as everybody thought), you've got to demand the ball instead of lurking in the corner waiting for a pass to come

Jeff Green is a poor man's Rudy Gay.

That said, this season Jeff has been relatively efficient.  45%/39%/80%.  gay's problem is that he's shot horribly this season.  If a player is shooting 38%, he shouldn't be taking 19 shots a night.

I agree - Green is so overrated on this site it's amazing.  He stinks, he is a 4th or 5th best player on a title team...I don't get why people like him so much? Because he is a good dunker? He won't be on this team the next time the C's are contenders again.

Contradiction here.  Look at the 4th and 5th best players on championship level team and then tell me if you conclude that they "stink".  He doesn't stink, but he if he is the 3rd best player on your team, your team is probably in trouble.  I'd agree that Green should be earning less given his true value, and  agree that there is a good chance he won't be on the team next time C's are contenders -- but if he's 4th/5th man with a true Big Three ahead of him, I'd be glad to have him.

I disagree.

The biggest key, is that Jeff makes less and plays efficiently and defends too.  I do think they probably have very similar talents, but Rudy Gay just jacks up shots, more than he should for sure.

You can't say that about Green (the issue is always wanting him to shoot more).  And he's become a strong defender the last couple years.

But again, the biggest difference is their salaries.  I would much rather have Jeff on my team at about half Rudy Gay's salary.  Jeff can be on a winning team.

Jeff Green is unreliable, inconsistent. Rudy Gay is consistently bad. Not a ton in common at the end of the day.

rudy gay shoots 49% from the field since joining the kings, that is considered consistantly bad?

No its not, but he's shot poorly for two plus years now. 11 games doesn't make that go away.

It is too early to rush to judgement on Jeff Green until we learn how well he will work with Rondo as a key business partner. So far I think he is doing a good job for the Celtics but has had some off games and the Celtics have struggled as a result.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Gay wasn't really the main scorer till he got to Toronto and we saw how that went.

The trend lines are more important than the overall averages. Gay's shooting, jump shooting in particular, has declined for three years now. Jeff Green's jumped a bit since coming to Boston and have stayed at that level.

Jeff Green's lack of strength, average at best ball handling ability,  and poor footwork really limits his ability.   In comparison those are big attributes for many great players (especially footwork IMO) such as Paul Pierce.  Jeff also doesn't seem to move well to get open that much off the ball like what Ray.   If he can get a step on his man though for a straight drive to the hoop he very good at that, but that doesn't happen often enough.   He is what he is at this point which is still a good player.

If we can get Greg Monroe for a package based on JG, I'm good with that.

So this pretty much nails it...unfortunately...

The thing of it is that for, what, 7 years in the NBA, his job was to do none of those things.  He was asked to stand around and watch Westbrook/Durant in an offense that didn't have him moving w/o the ball; he stood around waiting for a corner 3 or drive for basically 6 years?  Oh, and finishing.  He's a great finisher (where the Worthy comparisons came from for a quick spell).

Perhaps, just maybe, a read/react offense would give him opportunities to attack.  It has, but he doesn't seem to have the instinct, or it's been sucked out of him.

Now I'm hoping that Rondo starts pushing him around on the court, getting him coming off of picks and moving.

I think he can be lethal as a finisher in Rondo's orchestra.

And this would be a corollary of the theory that Rondo is a main star that can make everybody else better.

But as far as Green goes, it's not like he's Jumaine Jones 2.0.

At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Jeff Green is our Jeff Green.

Rudy Gay is "clearly a superior player", but he's overpaid and a chucker. I'm happy he's not a Celtic.

Jeff plays good defense, and while his game has flaws, he's a positive on both ends, can score in many ways and has mismatch potential.

Some CelticsBlog forum threads start to remind me of the RealGM General Board, or even better, the Knicks forum.

I can't wait for Rondo to come back and the zillions of "trade Rondo" threads/fanposts, and LarBrd33 ranking the recovered Rondo as "one of the best 100 PGs in the NBA". ::)
