Two weeks ago he was player of the week but since then he has been a turnover machine most of them ugly like not getting the ball across half court in the eight seconds allotted, laxadazical passes being picked off, dribbling the clock out taking too much time to set up a play and worst of all jacking up too many shots when he is clearly not hitting. in the Pistons game he was 5/22.
Brad Stevens has got to reel this kid in. we have a better shot at beating Detroit if Crawford uses his head a little more.
don't get me wrong, I'm really excited about what he and Rondo will bring to this team but the guy has to think a little better.

The other day before Kobe got hurt the crew at the ESPN pre-game were talking about him and Sage Steele stated something like:"If Kobe changes his game some and does this...."

Well, Doug Collins, Jalen Rose and Bill Simmons jumped all over her and stated something like "You can't change the way these players think about how to play the game and adjust in a major way like you are stating, Sage".

I think that is relevant with Jordan Crawford. He's performing better but in the end, when the year is over, stats and a lot of games like the game against Detroit will show, you can't change the way a player thinks he should play the game and that player will eventually play HIS game.

Crawford's game is jacking up shots, not thinking the game and because he doesn't think the game, he turns the ball over a lot and trusts his 28 foot three pointers more than his team mates to score the ball.

So because of that, I am not sure you can "reign in Crawford". If you are going to utilize him, you going to have to live with what he is as a player and what he is going to do. He's going to be on fire and hit tons of messed up shots that when you watch you are going to scream "NO! What are you doing.....YEAH!!!! Never mind you hit that shot!!!"and then there will be those games he basically shoots you out of a win. In between there will be some mediocre performances.

That's who Jordan Crawford is. Like it or not, he's not going to change all that much if any.

Love Crawford, but I agree with you.  Time to set him straight before he goes too far off the rails and turns back into the old Crawford.

I think he'll get it straight.

Like Nick said, his tendencies are what they are: he wants to attack his defender on every possession.

That's fine for a SG, but must be resisted when running a half-court team offense, for the most part.

Everyone (including me) has been mostly positive about him backing up Rondo.

I'd like to see them play together.

The first part of that is probably true, the second part of that statement is fairly easily dismissed.

Wade is a great example of someone who's adjusted in a major way, although I'm sure he still thinks about the game in the same manner. Kobe's actually a good example too, as is Ray Allen. In fact, I'd say that the friction between having to adjust your game in a major way with how you think about the game was a large reason why Ray left the C's.

Also, two turnovers a game is a lot?

I don't think that his shot selection has changed that much. He was taking a lot of ill-advised shots earlier in the year, he just hit a lot of them.

He's had 11 turnovers over the last 5 games while averaging 35 minutes per game. Over the same span, he's had 29 assists.

No, he wasn't. He was 4 for 15 -- you should learn how to read an NBA box score ;)

Hey now, let's not bring numbers into what is clearly an "eye test" thread.

The last 5 games he hasn't shot very well overall, but that'll happen with a guy like Crawford. Only his game against the Knicks where he scored 2 was all that terrible.

His game has always been ugly though, just who he is. Heck his upright herky jerk driving style is ugly to me, but it works.

I agree, his game looks exactly the same as it did at the start of the season. The only difference is that the shot isn't falling -- the selection isn't any worse.

The fact that his nickname is Steez, which is a conjunction of style + ease, is hilarious. Crawford makes almost nothing look stylishly easy on the court--except for his passing, sometimes.

Yeah and his December splits are the same basically as November too. I thought they'd be worse given the last few games.

Just the ebb and flow of a shooter that's all.

Ugly, yes.  He looks like he's 11 years old when he drives - all knees and elbows.

Then somehow the ball goes in...

"herky-jerky" -- we've all been influenced by Tommy, eh?

As long as we are going to bring numbers into the conversation let's not forget that the sample size of Crawford playing smart, good basketball is so small as to be considered a complete aberration. What's a lot more likely is that he will return to his career TS% of 49%, his career eFG% of 45% and his career assist% of 20% while maintaining a ridiculously high usage ratio for a player with stats like that.

I only bring the point up to say that we're talking about "reigning in" Crawford, who is "throwing the ball away" on "laxadasical passes" after one or two games where he actually played about the same as he has been all year.

I don't doubt that a large part of his resurgence is due to the fact that he's playing in a contract year, and he's had a legitimate chance to hold on to a starting role (something he hadn't had in Washington or with us last year), but this sort of knee-jerk naysaying seems silly to me.
