it says on hoopshype today that the celtics are still having trade discussions with the rockets for omer asik, even though the self imposed trade deadline of the rockets has passed. Was reported by yahoo sports (aka trustworthy).

Link?

Doesn't really surprise me.

The fit just makes too much sense on paper in regards to what the celtics need (defensive size) and what the Rockets want (draft picks and players).

I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Morey and Danny seeking a 3 team trade to get around the whole "deadline" rule.

After the last 3 losses, Asik would be just what the doctor ordered.

We continue to get destroyed in the front court. Admittedly, I am not a huge Asik fan as I prefer a center who can score, but beggars can't be choosers and the fact is Asik is a very good rim-protector.

Time to get this puppy done. Enough screwing around.

gut tells me we get Asik at the deadline.

That way, we don't inadvertently win the division -- and also Morey gets to continue trolling him for a bit.

We are so close to the lotto.  Rondo might still sit out the whole season. At this point, I'd rather we miss the playoffs than trade for TurkPerk.

Who told you we're making the playoffs if we trade for Asik?

I agree mostly.

The big point for me though is combining assets. Bass is likely an easily moveable guy if Ainge just wants to move on. However Lee will be harder with that third year.

Depending on the pick, I think it makes a lot of sense to consolidate. Asik could be a building block or a much better asset than Lee/Bass. If Rondo continues to sit, I don't imagine Asik tips the scales an enormous amount this season.

Given that Morey has been considering trading away Asik and Lin (those combined 30M next season might of might not have something to do with that, right?), and after last season trade petitions, I'd do this:

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=od8pwht

BOS in: Asik+Motiejunas from HOU, Stoudamire from NYK
BOS out: Lee+2015 LAC pick to HOU, Bass+Wallace to NYK, Humphries to PHI

PHI in: Humphries from BOS, Shumpert from NYK, a first rounder from HOU
PHI out: Thaddeus Young to HOU

NYK in: Wallace+Bass from BOS, Lin from HOU
NYK out: Stoudamire to BOS, Shumpert to PHI, Felton+2018 first rounder to HOU

HOU in: Young from PHI, Lee+2015 LAC pick from BOS, Felton+2018 NYK pick from NYK
HOU out: Asik+Motiejunas to BOS, Lin to NYK, first round pick to PHI

Why for HOU: get rid of the balloon payment next season. Get a good PF in Young, a good backup SG in Lee, and a good (at his prize tag) PG in Felton, who needs a fresh start and is a capable player at only 3.6M a year. All three have 3-year contracts, but the Rockets want to win now. Getting young deserves a first rounder going to the Sixers, maybe this year's, maybe 2015... it depends on Hinkie and Morey.

Why for NYK: get Lin back. Send away 3 players who are questioned by NY fans and media, get 3 character guys. Wallace is on a terrible contract, but he'd set a good example in that disfunctional locker. Bass is a solid two-way player, a professional. Lin is a fan favorite, brings some positive press to the Knicks, and it's worth the future pick to the Rockets.

Why for PHI: Get some salary floor and a good veteran guy in Humphries, a young prospect on little money in Shumpert, and a Rockets pick that will be a late first, but a good player can be had there. The Sixers could end up winning the trade if they can pick someone like McAdoo or McGary.

Why for BOS: Clear the books now and in the future. Get TurkPerk and Motiejunas as future building blocks/trade pieces and a Ratliff 2.0 contract in Stoudamire

Rondo/Crawford/Pressey
Bradley/Crawford/Brooks
Green/Bogans/
Sully/Kelly/Motiejunas
Asik/Fav/(Stat)

with 2.3M additional cap space to fill the two roster spots in case Bogans (or Crawesome) isn't traded before the deadline. Better flexibility, a little worse team = tanking powers clicking at full throttle.

TPs going to LarBrd33 for the TurkPerk nickname, and to kozlodoev for the accurate remark. TurkPerk won't take you to the promise land.

as was shown earlier in this thread, asik is a much better offensive player than perk, and a better rim defender by all accounts.

besides, if the celtics can win a championship with perk as their center, asik, who is better, should improve their chances.

Given Rondo's timeline, and the state of the East, acquiring Asik strikes me as a move for next season. And depending on how well it works, for several years after that. But that's just me.

I agree, and thought the same, even before Rondo's pushed back time-line....and that's more than fine with me.

Since Beverley is now out and they had to bring Canaan back up from the D-League, let's give Morey something more to go to ownership with, as they seemed to be the one to nix the Bass/Lee/protected deal for Asik.

Let's add JCraw as the incentive to push it over the top and sell it to ownership.

Bass/Lee/Crawford and protected first for Asik, Montejunas and Canaan.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lrbop35

That gives us two young prospects and a center for hopefully the future.

Much ado about nothing... TurkPerk is not walking through that door.

Definitely a move for next season.  Plus the season after, & the one after that etc.  Still only 27 years old.  It would be nice to have him going forward in the rebuild.

That ship has sailed guys especially with Courtney and Bass not helping their trade value recently. I think we're stuck with them, having Rondo around would help but that isn't anytime soon either.

Who said it had to be Lee and Bass in the deal?

Humphries, Bogans, Favarani, ect are all possibilities.
