I think Morey is using us to sweeten the pot.

It isn't getting any sweeter unless Howard gets injured and Asik takes over and puts up great numbers until the deadline and that just isn't the player he is.

Watching Indiana completely destroy Houston makes me think Houston should reconsider.

Was just thinking the same thing. Glad they are getting their arses kicked.

Hey Morey, swallow your dumbass pride and take the deal. It's the best you're gonna get pal.

So much for the deal happening sometime today, according to Morey it looks like ownership is maybe what made the deal fall through. We can finally move on now.

Quote
Rockets general manager Daryl Morey, speaking on radio station SportsTalk 790 Friday morning with hosts Adam Clanton and Lance Zierlein, said the deal they had in place fell apart.

“We were definitely trying to move (Asik),” said Morey. “It was trending towards something happening, but sometimes when you get to those last approvals and the owner, I think as Houston fans know from past deals that didn’t come off that looked like they were done, they don’t happen.”

The better offers? Those never arrived.

“You’re obviously never going to do a deal that doesn’t help the team or keep you at least even,” said Morey. “And those didn’t present themselves.”

Morey said he spoke to Asik personally on Thursday.

“It’s pretty likely that Omer is here for quite a long time,” said Morey. “A lot of the dynamics that went into things not working out don’t change, in terms of the contract and things like that. We did feel like we owed it to Omer to give a strong look at it, but nothing ended up materializing.”

  I think:

"It was trending towards something happening, but sometimes when you get to those last approvals and the owner, I think as Houston fans know from past deals that didn’t come off that looked like they were done, they don’t happen.”

  was related to:

"You’re obviously never going to do a deal that doesn’t help the team or keep you at least even,” said Morey. “And those didn’t present themselves.”

Sounds like Asik's contract (and possibly his attitude) are bad enough that they didn't get any offers that wouldn't worsen the team. If a good team has an injury issue they might make a move for him, otherwise the Rockets might be stuck with him. If he really becomes a problem or a distraction then the Rockets will probably have a "pick your poison" moment.

It sounds like he was fine with making a deal (by us most likely since it was the best one offered) but ownership didn't feel the right deal presented itself, at least that's how I read it.

I don't think it's looking good for Houston they wanted him with the team to try and integrate him back into the lineup. If you're watching the Pacer game he isn't even on the bench, unless he's hurt he probably doesn't even want to suit up for them. Good for everybody else he prob wanted to come to boston

To me it sounds like Morey was willing to do a deal that wouldn't really help the team just to move Asik and the owners weren't.

Btw, while it's tough to win in Indy, I don't think a 30+ point loss will make Morey feel better about the non-trade. If they don't play well things aren't going to get better for him.

Agree....Still an hour to go before midnight.

I'm hoping that they realize that both letting a team chemistry killer go for two rotation players who will be stabilizing veteran presences on a team and immediate contributors is a win-win for them.

They sure could have used Courtney today on offense and defense. Harden trying to defend George was comical and his offense suffered because of it.

it says on hoopshype today that the celtics are still having trade discussions with the rockets for omer asik, even though the self imposed trade deadline of the rockets has passed. Was reported by yahoo sports (aka trustworthy).

Oh I know I meant I couldn't find the yahoo article. Want to see if Morey is an evil genius and knew Green's play would anger everyone so much this week Danny would trade him for Asik haha

Lee would get killed by George, he's too small to defend him. Green would work better for them, which is why I think they hold out for him.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

Then I think they are going to hold out for the next couple of years then. Asik is decent, but there are a number of other centers in the league and the upcoming draft that Danny is holding out for. He isn't going to trade Green for Asik right now - it makes absolutely no sense for us moving forward.
