If the C's get Asik doesn't it defeat the purpose if they include Green?  it's a lateral move?
More like a step back even. Can't we just give Houston an expiring contract plus one of our picks? Or even just absorb Asik's contract flat for a pick. Why do we need a facilitator? That just doesn't make any sense.

I am not a huge fan of Green but I am not giving him up in a deal for Asik.

Beyond Atlanta, Boston, Cleveland and Philadelphia, I know there's one more significant team in Asik mix. "A wildcard," a source says.

I remain convinced this is Charlotte. I hear that Ainge and MJ have spoken a number of times recently.

Yeah I dont like the idea either. I seem to be a bigger Green fan than most but I think taking him our of the lineup and replacing him with Asik isn't a good idea with the way this team is made up.

Wow....I have a hard time seeing DA basically trading Green for Asik ...even if it is our chance a starting calibre center ......when we have so many other players to trade.......especially Wallace.

If ainge doesnt view green as part of the future what does it hurt in trading him? A quality seven footer is harder to find than a syltarting caliber center

Green is what he is at this point.

But it lends me to believe this is leading to a bigger deal. Is carmelo anthony ainges bigger target?

Rondo/bradley/melo/sullinger/asik

Could be a good team

So Bill Simmons mentions the trade exception in his tweeter. How does that fit in?

Nobody wants Wallace, though.

We are trading green  to atl for milsap and a pick
we are then trading atl pick and our pick and maybe a player  to  cover salaries to Houston for asik

atl gets back a sf
we get our sf and center
Houston gets rid of asik and gets two picks

Why would Atlanta want Green instead of Milsap and a #1?

(Also, keep in mind that for the next two years, Atlanta has the right to swap picks with Brooklyn.)

Consistently hearing that BOS isn't all that enthralled with Asik. League source on if Jeff Green could be involved in Asik deal: "No way."

I think the best way the trade exception fits in is if we send out Hump.  Then we use the trade exception to acquire Asik, and get a new, larger, and later-expiring trade exception in the size of Hump's $12 million dollar salary.  Otherwise, I don't think it comes into play, since we're looking to send out at least as much salary as we're taking back due to avoiding the luxury tax, and so would be unnecessary.

It is actually how I thought the C's could get involved in a Asik trade before the season.  With the trade exception, they can just absorb Asik, or some player from a third team, so Houston would get a trade exception of their own to use later in the season.

The problem is, if the C's use the trade exception, it would put them over the tax line, most likely to a point where it would be difficult to get back under.  And that would not only mean Wyc would be paying the tax this year for a team that can't sell out games and isn't a contender, but it also puts them at risk of paying the repeater tax if they go over the line again next year.

I saw Simmons write that last night, I was wondering the same thing?  Could they trade the TE and a pick?  but that would put the C's over the tax?  So they have to move some salary....
