I'd slot Vonleh in ahead of Randle.

Im not sure he will go ahead of randle but Vonleh has the higher ceiling. Randle is probably better right now but Vonleh's size advantage makes him more of a pure PF in the NBA.

he suffers from an incurable disease - Big Ten-itis.  too many busts from Big 10 schools to take a risk on.  Ohio State aside with Conley and Sully but other than that, I wouldn't touch a Big 10 player in the first round
Trey Burke might very well be the best player drafted last year and Tim Hardaway hasn't been terrible either.  Cody Zeller has been pretty good but given he was drafted 4th is probably a bit of a letdown thus far.  The only other Big Ten player drafted last year was DeShaun Thomas right at the end of the 2nd round.

2012 - Sullinger, Meyers Leonard (buried on the depth chart), Draymond Green and Robbie Hummel the only 4 taken, with 3 of the 4 exceeding draft position (only Leonard has not)

2011 - JaJuan Johnson (bust), Jon Leuer (exceed), Darius Morris (ok pick), E'Twaun Moore (far exceed), and Jon Diebler (late 2nd)

2010 - Evan Turner (ok - 19/6/4 this year is pretty solid) - no one else drafted

2009 - Byron Mullins (ok), Goran Suton (late 2nd no league play) - no one else drafted

2008 - Eric Gordon (injury), Kosta Koufus (ok), DJ White (ok) - no one else drafted

2007 - Greg Oden (injury), Mike Conley (good), DaeQuan Cook (ok), Alando Tucker (bust - though late 1st), Carl Landry (excellent), Adam Haluska (mid-2nd no league)

Not sure where this notion that Big Ten players can't play in the league arose from.  The ones that get drafted have done alright.  Many have exceeded draft position, some have been busts, and two major ones had careers derailed by injuries (though Gordon is finally starting to get healthy and has been pretty solid this year).

You forgot Victor Oladipo, who's also been anything but a bust so far.
Yep. I actually missed both Indiana players from last year, but I remembered Zeller when I saw his brother the year before, but never went back and checked so I didn't catch Oladipo.

Looking at your list, I realized that the Big 10 hasn't had a player drafted after only his freshman year since Byron Mullens.  That's pretty different from the other major college conferences.  If Vonleh leaves early, he'd be the first in 5 years.

Well, not quite first  ;D

I'd much prefer Noah Vonleh over either Gordon or Julius Randle (another player I'm not too enamored with).

You're an NBA scout, aren't you?  :o

I wouldn't mind taking him just because he's a local kid, though that doesn't always work out due to the distractions of playing in your hometown.

I'd certainly never say! ;-)

Vonleh is a beast. He played Sf in high school, and kept growing so just added muscle and is now a top rebounder/defender. He's horford basically.

I've got him 5th on my big board. He's under the radar for how good he is. Scouts know it.

If Noah Vonleh can be 70% of the player that Chris Bosh is then that could be special for this team. He'd be that third skilled big in the rotation with Sulley and KO but one with the length and athleticism to switch out into the driving lanes and eat up potential Pick and Rolls.

That's a nice balance if perhaps lacking in rim protection but since all three can shoot the rock it would help to negate the opposition's inside presence as well.

This cat is the real deal.  Just 18 years old and appears to be a hard worker.

My rankings of who the Celtics should pluck:

1. Embiid
2. Wiggins
3. Parker
4. Exum
5. Vonleh
6. Smart
7. I hope we don't go this low

i read an article yesterday that has vonleh ahead of randle, purely due to wingspan.  i've mostly shied away from measurables when it comes to the nba.  i look at charles barkley and how he dominated as a 6'6" power forward.  i beleive its more about heart, desire, and work ethic.  i take randle ahead of vonleh!

Probably my favorite player in the draft past the top 3.. great size and can hit shots from outside... posting doubles doubles on only 23 minutes is purely amazing

If they hit 4, and Exum is there like you have, do they draft him if Rondo is still on the team?

Exum and Rondo together would be great. A dual PG offense without sacrificing the size. Our bigs can shoot and pass so pacing isn't as big a problem. Having those two together would be another step towards getting back to title contention.

In what little i have seen, i am lukewarm on vonleh. He has looked very passive, like a big who doesnt really care too much about playing basketball to his highest effort and concentration. Kind of like a Lamar odom, mark Blount type.

But he has skills and size, so he would be hard to pass around the 10th pick.
Top 10 coming out of H.S. and played in McDonald's game.  Also started as a guard.  I'd say he has some potential.

Yes, this makes sense.  Take Exum and RUN with it!
