Just wanted to point out the lack of hype for Vonleh (a mass kid). Currently averaging 13pt 10rb 1blk in 23min. Draft express has him projected as the 8th pick in the upcoming draft but with Indiana relatively out of the spot light you don't hear nearly the hype for him that Aaron Gordon (who has lesser stats) gets.

He seems like a very legit PF prospect. Physical very similar to Ekpe Udoh. Udoh is a player I thought would thrive in the NBA. He has great length (7'4 wingspan) and a 8'10 reach (this is average for a PF)

I like Vonleh, but barring any trades, I think Celtics have the PF spot filled.

In what little i have seen, i am lukewarm on vonleh. He has looked very passive, like a big who doesnt really care too much about playing basketball to his highest effort and concentration. Kind of like a Lamar odom, mark Blount type.

But he has skills and size, so he would be hard to pass around the 10th pick.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I'd love to place him next to Greg Monroe.  ;D

Vonleh is not a ft pf nor sf. Hybrid for the good and the bad

But he could be a matchup nightmare for any defender who doesn't have comparable size. And on defensive could guard multiple positions

An X calibre type pick. Could be a really good one or the next Beasley/Favors/Williams

But reading some scouting reports, he is a good kid and has a strong work ethic.  Listens and actually a little passive, like Jeff Green.

Saw some of his moves and a game, and I'm not impressed, very passive, don't think he will be it (I didn't watched him closely though, nor does most games).
Goal for next season: Top 2 seed.
Say goodbye to: Turner, Zeller, Sully.

Favors is young and averaging 14pt 9rb ? Wouldn't include him in that list

he suffers from an incurable disease - Big Ten-itis.  too many busts from Big 10 schools to take a risk on.  Ohio State aside with Conley and Sully but other than that, I wouldn't touch a Big 10 player in the first round

I'd slot Vonleh in ahead of Randle.

Don't forget it is his first year playing down low. He was on the perimeter a lot in hs. Also he put on almost 30lbs of muscle in one summer, some players literally can't add muscle to their frames, expect him to get even stronger and bigger.

Trey Burke might very well be the best player drafted last year and Tim Hardaway hasn't been terrible either.  Cody Zeller has been pretty good but given he was drafted 4th is probably a bit of a letdown thus far.  The only other Big Ten player drafted last year was DeShaun Thomas right at the end of the 2nd round.

2012 - Sullinger, Meyers Leonard (buried on the depth chart), Draymond Green and Robbie Hummel the only 4 taken, with 3 of the 4 exceeding draft position (only Leonard has not)

2011 - JaJuan Johnson (bust), Jon Leuer (exceed), Darius Morris (ok pick), E'Twaun Moore (far exceed), and Jon Diebler (late 2nd)

2010 - Evan Turner (ok - 19/6/4 this year is pretty solid) - no one else drafted

2009 - Byron Mullins (ok), Goran Suton (late 2nd no league play) - no one else drafted

2008 - Eric Gordon (injury), Kosta Koufus (ok), DJ White (ok) - no one else drafted

2007 - Greg Oden (injury), Mike Conley (good), DaeQuan Cook (ok), Alando Tucker (bust - though late 1st), Carl Landry (excellent), Adam Haluska (mid-2nd no league)

Not sure where this notion that Big Ten players can't play in the league arose from.  The ones that get drafted have done alright.  Many have exceeded draft position, some have been busts, and two major ones had careers derailed by injuries (though Gordon is finally starting to get healthy and has been pretty solid this year).
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

You forgot Victor Oladipo, who's also been anything but a bust so far.

Wow. I wonder why Randle would slide below Vonleh, given his low post scoring skills.
Its fun to see a thread from a month and change ago. I have done a 180 on Vonleh since then. I really like his skills, body. He reminds me of Al Horford. He would be a nice pickup around the 6-9 pick range.

Yep. I actually missed both Indiana players from last year, but I remembered Zeller when I saw his brother the year before, but never went back and checked so I didn't catch Oladipo.
