  • KG IS THE KING
He was here for 9 years, half of those years we were terrible. He stuck it through a rebuild, and won a championship for us. The team went a different direction so he sought out a better opportunity. I feel happy for Doc and will be giving him an ovation tonight.

Thanks Doc!

I for one, am glad he left.  He's a front runner of a coach and wouldn't have been nearly as good as Stevens for this team.

I have absolutely no feelings about Doc one way or another. I love Brad Stevens so far and hope it continues.

As for members of the Celtics' organization in years past, all you should do is hold onto the good memories and let it go.  I agree with the above comments about Doc not being the right guy for this rebuild.  In the end, I think this will work out best for everyone involved.

You must have forgotten he coached the Celtics for quite a bit before 2008.

And don't forget he also coached the Magic for 4+ years and they were pretty terrible...so much that they ended up firing him after 11 games back in '04.

How he ever won Coach of the Year I'll never understand...

He won 41 games with something that pretty much resembled the 2013-2014 Boston Celtics in terms of roster talent. May have arguably been worse, too.

He also recorded three straight playoff appearances with teams where Bo Outlaw and Pat Garrity were among the top three in minutes played, so I can't see how he has been "pretty horrible" in Orlando. In fact, he was pretty good there, given that his roster never had anything to show beyond Darrell Armstrong and Tracy McGrady.

Rivers points out that he did leave for what amounts to a promotion, since not only is he head coach but also VP for player personnel.  He obviously wasn't going to get power over personnel decisions while Ainge was running the show in Boston.  I'd even say that Doc and Danny felt they were going to butt heads and have some ferocious arguments over players if they were both around for a rebuilding period.  So, in some ways, it's like saying an assistant going for a head coaching job elsewhere is walking out on the team.

We hired Doc when no one wanted him.  Until the trade that created the 'new big three' he wasn't anything special.

No great loss that he's not here - Stevens is a much better option for this team than Doc would have been.  That being said I cannot root for him, unless of course the Clips are playing the Lakers or Heat.

Um, we hired him after he spent less than a season as a TV analyst. By the same token by which Doc was "nothing special", Stevens is "nothing special" this year himself.

Yeah. The revisionist history is pretty sad. People should feel free to dislike him, but they shouldn't attempt to rewrite history.
