Doc was a great PR man.....that's what diva stars need .....someone to cover for them, their flaws , their mistakes , someone to take the public rap for them.  Diva s. dream coach.

Doc gets an A +. Grade ......perfect coach for someone like Kobe, CP3 , Melo

As a fan.... He was a very good player, especially in College I cheered him and his coach .....a good man.

Now ..to me he is a  "snake oil salesman". .....not such a great coach .....his head is probably to,much in politics

Love his honesty in this. (that's what the topic started out about, if ya'll recall :p)
Exactly.  He basically got a job promotion with the personel input he now has.  Plus he got to coach a player he loves in Chris Paul.  And obviously Ainge was on the same page because he allowed him to leave and got a draft pick in addition.  Everyone got what they wanted and no party screwed the other.  I don't get all the negative feelings for Rivers.

The statement that he was a nobody is a joke.  I was thrilled when Ainge signed him.  And the statement that he is a front runner is questionable too.  The Clips job is his first time joining a decent team.  The Magic were horrible and he managed a coach of the year.  The Celtics were horrible and he helped win a championship.  Don't you guys think he has earned the right to do a little front running as others like Phil Jackson and Pat Riley have done?  I do.

And I'm just curious, if Doc is such a snake oil salesmen, don't you think the players would have figured that out by now?  He has very good relationships with players and tons of players want to play for him.  I don't think all that great stuff he said about Boston last night was salesmanship.  I think he really meant it.

I agree with all the sentiment about not hating Doc, but to be fair when he joined Orlando the plan was to stink for a year to clear cap space then sign major FAs and contend.  They got T-Mac and Grant Hill, but we all know what happened to Grant.  So the Magic were awful but he knew top shelf talent was coming when he got there.

Why didn't we boo? Didn't Doc say the Lakers were a better franchise than the Celtics?

Ummm, why didn't we boo him?

Didn't he say the Lakers were the best franchise in the history of sports despite Yankees having that topped by far?

Didn't he say CP3/Deandrecan't-shoot-free-throws-to-save-his-or your life?/ Or Blake-can't-post-despite-arguably being the top 5 PF in the league yet Griffin, is the best Big 3 or will be better?

Didn't he basically try to pin most of the blame on DA, despite not manning up, and being honest? If he had been as honest from the jump, then yes I would've respected him a lot more.

I understood you didn't want to rebuild, but at least be HONEST!

I liked Doc Rivers, and I applaud him for what he has done, and that will never be forgotten. But I lost a severe amount of respect for him.

No, he didn't.

As i saw parts of the press conference, im realizing now its not all about doc but also that he didnt want to embarrass the org.  Unfortunately he did not or doesnt have the confidence to start from the ground up

He was honest with his limitations. What can u do

If he did bad, im sure we would of eaten him alive. So that wouldnt be fair for him also

I don't get all the hate towards Rivers. The team was going in a different direction, one that he delt with for years already.

Paul and KG were leaving, new faces, rebuilding plans. If there was ever a time for him to leave and not really hurt the team it would have been then.

Yes, he left in a shady way, but he also came here and stuck it out for 9 years (with maybe 4 of them being good years)

I'm glad things turned out the way they did, I'm very happy with Stevens and he's happy where he is. He came back and we have respect for him and he has respect for us.

“It didn’t surprise me. It’s an amazing fan base and I want everything to go well for them . . . This is such a neat place. People don’t get Boston. They don’t understand. It is a special, different place. They cheer for their teams . . . The best decision I ever made was when I decided to come here.’’

Say what you want, but he is nothing short of a class act.

Whats funny is that some of tha people that was calling for Doc's head last year and prior are tha same ones hating him for leaving or wanting to leave. You wanted him gone but have hate for him because he wanted to go elsewhere?

Like other posters tho i don't see or get tha hatred for Doc. He was great for us while he was here. Tha man consistently coached us into tha playoffs no matter who or how many were on our injured list. I loved and supported Doc while he was here and i wish tha brotha tha best in Clipperland only until they play us.

I wish he could have stayed but his time in Boston was over. We now have a new coach with new faces on iur roster and im excited for this new chapter in Celtics history. Like I said I wish Doc tha best and I'll always appreciate what he's done for this team but I bleed green baby. I have a lot of faith in Brad Stevens and I believe he'll do some great things here with this team. We have tha right coach for tha direction we are going.

Love all the out-of-context quotes of Doc.

His post-game presser, his emotion showing, his respect for Boston... Just the way ANYONE who used to be in Boston and has since left, from Pierce to McHale back to Doc.

The only thing it does to me, is make me proud to be a Celtic fan.

Our franchise, is THE franchise. Full stop.
