So, the Oak Hill coach said Melo told him he's trying to recruit Rondo to the Knicks.
Quote
In an interview with USA Today’s Jason Jordan, Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy boys basketball coach Steve Smith, whose teams featured Rajon Rondo and Carmelo Anthony at the prep level, claimed the Knicks superstar is lobbying the Celtics point guard to join him in New York.

JJ: Are you confident that he’ll be just as good, if not better, coming off of the ACL tear?

SS: No, I think he should be fine. He took a long time off and he’s rehabbed the right way. Whether he stays in Boston or not who knows. I know, talking to Melo , he’s recruiting Rajon to come to New York. Melo thinks he’ll come too. You never know about that stuff though. I think either way, Rajon will be fine

Interesting... Be a sidekick in NY or lead your own team in Boston. Choices.

Exactly, and from what I've read, that organization isn't stable at all.

I think Rondo would play with Melo (or Josh Smith); he seems really friendly with his high school alums.

But I hope that he'd be savvy enough to have 0 interest in doing it on a team run by Jimmy Dolan.

...of course, that raises the possibility that Melo already has a destination in mind for next year and wants Rondo to go there with him.

I think the city is variable to Melo. Because if New York stays a dumpster fire he's gone. Doesn't mean he won't recruit Rondo and others still.

He can recruit all he wants.

The logistics of Rondo actually getting there is a nightmare for the Knicks.  No draft picks to trade.  No strong player assets to trade.  No cap space.

this, and a quote from Rondo not too long ago

"This is my team now, why would I leave that?"

This.

If they ever get together, it sure as heck isn't gonna be in NYC.

The Knicks will have cap space the year Rondo is a free agent.

That's probably what lead to the recruiting, I'd bet he's working on all the potential FAs of that class.

Somewhat amusing, considering the number of posts I've seen about how having Rondo on the team would stop us from getting free agents because none of them wanted him for a teammate.

Oh, the irony.

Isn't that backwards?  Wouldn't Melo-to-Boston be a lot more logical, since the C's could likely structure some kind of sign-and-trade with New York this summer?  We've got a ton of draft picks and some interesting young players to make it worth the Knicks' while.  We could use either Gerald Wallace's contract or re-sign Hump to a one-year guaranteed contract to make the numbers work.

I'm not saying I'd DO it, but Melo coming to Boston seems just as likely (if not more so) than Rondo going to New York.

I guess he's waiting for when Rondo hits free agency instead of a trade. I think by then the Knicks will have some space (at least that's what I read)

Rondo won't be a free agent until a year after Melo.  If NY doesn't get its act together, I've got to believe Melo's going to want a fresh start somewhere else.  He'll get paid, regardless.

I said this on here a little while ago I actually think Rondo and Melo are the perfect match for each other.  He would get Melo so many easy shots and make his life a lot easier.  Rondo doesn't mind not scoring and I think Melo would average over 30 pts a game with Rondo as his PG...I know it would never happen but Rondo / Melo would be a nice one / two punch for building a team...
