You really think that making the playoffs in the Eastern Conference in the late 90's to early 00's is more impressive than hitting the playoffs in the last decade of the Western Conference?

every team we played against during that time should've beaten us with the talent we had. I don't care how bad or good the level of talent was considered back then. pierce would have killed to play with guys like Kenyon martin and marcus camby.

It seems clear at this point that Melo needs to latch on to a team with a superstar if he wants to win. Building around him is a proven failure in the postseason. He will always revert to hero ball and playoff teams can stop him with their better defense and with the the more physical play in the playoffs.

If we want a perpetual first round knockout team, pickup Melo. There are worst things.

I remember when the Melo/AI team was eliminated in the first round and Melo's post game comment was about needing offense. The dude really thinks the only way to victory is him chucking shots.

Interesting to see that Denver is not just better than the Knicks right now. They are MUCH better than the Knicks, even with Gallinari not yet playing. In fact, Denver has been good every season since they traded Melo.

The major risk with Melo is that his next contract will be very large despite his limitations.

I'm not sure 'Melo's worth another max deal, but I do think that the Knicks' roster flexibility really got screwed when STAT fell apart at the end of 2011.

I like Melo in Green. However, he might not fit in seamlessly with a rookie NBA coach who just got out of the NCAA. It would also heavily depend on who among our current players stay as his teammates after the trade pushes through. Melo chucks a lot every game but he definitely loves winning so I think he would listen and make selfless decisions if it means the team would get a genuine shot at the title. He is definitely clutch and a bonafide game-changer.

not true pierce likely would have gotten past the 1st round with those guys.

No way to say either way.

I think Pierce was a better player than Anthony, but I don't think that the gulf is as wide as you're making it out to be.

no there isn't a way to say either way. but i'd definitely take my chances with pierce.

Anthony thus far is no different than say derrick coleman or Antoine walker. all the talent in the world but doing nothing with it.

the reason i'm so offended by Celtics fans even suggesting going after Anthony is because yes i'm using pierce as a barometer, and why shouldn't I?

Pierce could've been the scoring champion or at least been in the running like Carmelo usually is. but that's not what a team needs every night. usually if one guy is taking 30 shots a gm. they're not very good. Pierce realized this very early on in his career. if we needed him to be a rebounder he went out & got 10 boards, if we needed him to get assists he went out & got 10 assists. he was always able to adjust his game accordingly.

there's only a handful of guys I can remember that did that consistently and pierce was one of 'em.

Carmelo has a long way to go before even being mentioned in the same sentence with pierce.

The basketball IQ gulf is large.

well, right now the eastern conference is about as bad as it's been since pierce was leading his team to a 1st rnd playoff victory for the 1st time in his career.

how come Carmelo isn't capitalizing on this moment?

Because we're only a quarter of the way through the season?

Personally I like it. He can score, and we really need that go to scorer on our team. In terms of pure scoring, only Durant is better than Melo.
