For the record, I expect Brooklyn to dig out of this hole.  Too much talent.   But what if they continue to stink?  What if Deron continues to be plagued by injuries and they finish at the bottom of the standings this year... and it carries over into next year?

Atlanta will get their 2014 pick.

Think we stand a chance at signing Pierce in the offseason using the MLE?  He's an unrestricted free agent.  Why would he bother sticking around?  Why not come back to Boston?

Would it be a lock that KG retires in the offseason?  He's signed on through 2014-15.  Any chance that the Nets would buy him out?  Brooklyn still owns their 2015 pick, right?  Wouldn't they just be best off buying out KG and tanking next season so they can make use of the lone draft pick they still have?   Then I imagine they'd try to put together a competitive team quickly since we own their 2016, 2018 and have the option of swapping with them in 2017.

If KG got bought out next year, what's the chances he signs with Boston for the 2nd half of the season... joining a returned Paul Pierce,  Rajon Rondo (finally healthy), Jabari Parker... and the rest of our team?

Lol

I tend to agree that they'll be able to turn it around, but if they can't then they are in big trouble.

even with that one pick, they could be messed up for at least half a decade.

My dream is to bring pierce back next season.  It'd be a beautiful thing

i saw an interview with KG, and he just looked so defeated.  Like he can't even believe that it's happening. I feel bad for him.  Gotta love KG

If all that happened (the buyouts etc..) then i don't know how any celtics fan could hate on Ainge

I trust Danny Ainge

They will have to trade Lopez most likely.

I'm pretty sure the Hawks have the right to switch picks again next year.

If that's the case they won't have exclusive rights to any of their picks until 2019.

I don't see the draft determining their play any time in the near future. I can't see them tanking for a season when they're supposedly title driven in order to get a decent draft pick.

I think they'd be trying to trade their expiring contracts for more overpriced / unwanted talent if they can continue to struggle. I don't see them rebuilding. No point rebuilding when you owe so many draft picks to other people.

Double down. Go all in.

To be blunt, the Nets and Knicks  are in figurative quicksand.

Brooklyn has left itself with only one viable option, to win and win now. They have no short term future in the draft having given up half their picks. If they continue to lose games I'd expect them to fire J Kidd, hire a big name coach and try to make a big trade.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

I said this in a recent thread, but that's basically the Isiah/Knicks approach.

I agree .....at some point the Nets under a new coach ...probably Frank.........will work their way out of the hole, As the rest of the east  sucks too..

I think the Nets will eventually catch the Hawks.....and make the playoffs

This is one of the rare times I actually think the Nets coach is just awful, or rather is the biggest  issue,  he needs to coach high school basketball first.......he is clueless ...seems lost in daze

Sooner they fire KiD , the sooner the Nets get back on track....

Kid is totally overwhelmed , he is doing nothing to lead the team, ...what a huge mistake.

looks like they do indeed http://www.prosportstransactions.com/basketball/DraftTrades/Future/Nets.htm

thought i have to question if maybe they can only swap 1 year or the other and not both

I personally hope the Nets and Hawks lose the next 40 straight.

2 lottery picks is better than one.
