the trade for Asik that makes sense imo is with the Bucks for Ersan Ilyasova. Something like Asik and Motiejunas for Ersan and Gary Neal. The Bucks have a ton of PFs and no real center other than Pachulia, and Ersan is a PF who can stretch the floor for Howard.

The Bucks have no center other than Zaza?

Larry Sanders says hello.

Larry Sanders is a PF. He is also out for 6 weeks after injuring his hand in a bar fight and management is not happy with him, but the bottom line is he is a power forward.

Eh, disagree very much but either way a front court of Sanders and Asik would present the same issues as Houston has.

If sail was 24 not 28 then yes but this is a major drop in talent that still leaves us too good to bottom out

Meh. Rondo wouldn't fit in Houston with Harden. They both need the ball in their hands

I really can't believe this thread. The OP really think Rondo could get us Asik?

Asik is a bonafide super star and plays at and above MVP levels in the playoffs. He is easily in the top 5 at his position. Asik has a ring and brings championship experience.

And you think Rondo... just an average player who can't shoot will be enough to bring us this kind of talent? You really think Houston would ever do that?

while anything is possible, i am not sure why the celtics would do this deal.

after this season, asik has one year left on his contract, and that is for $14.9 million. after that, he is an unrestricted free agent and will probably demand more money than he is worth.

last year, his only good year, he has about 10 points and 8 rebounds a game. nice, but not worth the money he is getting or will probably get.

rondo would give more to this team in terms of play.

If Danny traded Rondo it will be to the Nets for Williams and nine first rounders :)

maybe i am missing something. i checked the stats and for his career asik in the playoffs averages 4 points and 4.7 rebounds. granted last year he was better with 12.3 points and 11 rebounds in 6 playoff games. but that seems to be a mighty small sample to project off of.

i dont know his play very well, so perhaps he is a great defensive player? please let me know what qualifies him for top 5.

this article rates him as #16 in the nba.

My gut tells me that it is more likely Rondo is the top player on the Celtics for the next five seasons.  It also tells me I want a sandwich.

Why...? We will win more games, get a worse pick, and suck longer.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I doubt Rondo is moved for Asik. Would be a pretty tank worthy move where he's not getting as much value as he should out of a top 5 point guard- although he could try and haul some young assets and future picks too.

If it were Asik for Rondo?

Rockets send: Asik, Montejunas, Greg Smith, Terence Ross, 2014 first rounder, 2016 first rounder.

Celtics send: Rondo, Marshon Brooks.

I don't know the rockets situation but I doubt they want Bass or Courtney Lee. Perhaps Kris Humphries expiring would be enough- depends on how desperate they get. Are they clearing Asik for his salary next season or because they want to get under the cap this season?

If it's to get under the cap this season then they don't take this, but if it's to move his salary for next year then...

Rockets send: Asik ($8.5), 2014 first rounder($1 mill), Donatas Montejunas ($1 million), Greg Smith($1 mill),Terrence Jones, Omri Casspi($1 million)= TOTAL $12.5

for
Humphries($12 mill), Marshon Brooks ($1.2 million)= $13.3 total

Gives us a load of trade assets for star packages and gives them a huge expiring and the ability to match anything on Brooks. If he walks then at least they free up 13 million in space.
But yeah, I'd say they get better offers elsewhere, but I wonder if they got super desperate.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
