Upset I'm only seeing the last minute of this game. Sigh. Forgot all about it.

Wiggins was in foul trouble but really came on late and sealed the game with a couple plays, a step back jumper and then he absolutely flew in the open court. for a dunk that sealed it.

Parker is very polished offensively but Wiggins is a super special athlete.  And he can play too, not like he has no game or anything.

Both look great and Randle looks pretty great himself.

TP for the recap.

So things were more or less as expected?

And Duke lost? Excellent.

You'd have to ask "Meh" Jones and the rest of overreaction theater but I was very impressed with both players.  They are different but very impressive.

If anything it brought back my "we should tank!" voice in the back of my head...   ???

But I'm going to just ride this out and see where we go and not worry about it.

Parker was as expected offensively.  He's just one of those hard to find three-level scorers.  He is so fun to watch offensively.  Body-wise, I think Pierce is the only apt comparison because like Pierce, he has a dumpy looking body which is very unusual for an elite NBA wing.  I mean, the only other great NBA wing that I can remember having a Pierce-type body was Mark Aguirre.

The willingness to shoot puts Parker more along the lines of Carmelo than Pierce for.  I always thought Pierce could get gun shy or turn off the tap, whereas Carmelo could fire away with no conscience. Parker's more along that spectrum with hopefully fewer long-twos.

Defensively, I don't see how Parker's going to be a good individual defender.  Unlike Pierce whose lateral quickness belied his physical appearance, Parker's lateral quickness looks legitimately below-average.  Regardless, he looks to have the activity level and smarts to be a good team defender.

One thing I've been really impressed with Wiggins thus far in his extremely short college career is his defensive potential.  He contains dribble penetration extremely well and the great quick hops he shows on dunks, he employs to contest shots.  It's great to see.  If only he was a little more skilled he'd be a can't miss player.

It's NBA Jam, and you're on fire. ;D

If we happen to end up with a high pick in this draft, I won't sweat it, that's for sure.

I wish Wiggins would've guarded Parker more tonight.  It would've been illuminating for Wiggins' defensive potential as well as Parker's offensive potential against great athletes his size in the NBA.  I think Wiggins could've shut down Parker defensively.  Conversely, if Parker guarded Wiggins, Wiggins could've shut himself down if he took a bunch of jumpers and spun wildly in the paint.

As much as I hated how college refs called charges about 9/10 times, it's equally loathsome for them to call blocking fouls 9/10.  Just make the right call.  So many players barreled into set players and got free throws out of it or had their shots count.

I think both will be stars in very different ways, but man if Wiggins gets his jump shot down, he will be a deadly scorer. Seldon (a Roxbury native btw) played well and Embiid looked like a young/raw Roy Hibbert out there. This draft is going to be ridiculous. Danny please find a way to nab more 1st rounders by seasons end!

I don't follow a lot of college ball.  I can't really comment on what I see in a COllege game, because I don't really know what I'm talking about.

This probably sounds stupid, but I was always under the impression that NBA stars probably had exponentially higher stats when they played in College.  I just assumed if someone was a 20 point scorer in the NBA... the kid was probably averaging 35 in college.  I was surprised to look at college stats for NBA stars and realize it's actually the other way around.

Like Kevin Love... averaged 17 and 10 in college.   Derrick Rose averaged 15 and 5.   Blake Griffin averaged 15 and 9 as a freshman.   From what I can tell, it's a different statistical scale and it really depends what school a player plays for... averaging 15 and 5 at a crap school isn't the same as averaging 15 and 5 at a dominant program.

So I really don't understand how anyone can look at Wiggins right now and say "meh".  My hunch is that a fan who says that has no freaking idea what they are talking about.  Probably just NBA fans like myself who are completely unfamiliar with college basketball.  From what I can see, he's played two games and played them pretty darn well. As has Parker and Randle.  The numbers they are putting up in their first couple games are epic.  Wiggins dropping an efficient 22 points and 8 rebounds in 25 minutes vs Duke isn't "meh".  The hype seems warranted... scouts say all three of those guys (and perhaps 3-5 more) are destined for NBA superstardom.  This draft is huge.  Listen to Chad Ford explain it:  http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/63972/chad-ford-this-draft-worth-tanking-for

Barring injury, netting a top 5 pick in this draft will likely land you a franchise cornerstone.

Parker will always be second, because he plays for Duke.

Not around these parts.

Some draft site compared him to Paul Pierce, that´s like being given a knighthood.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Labird33, the reason why college stats aren't as high as the NBA is because the games are 8 mins shorter, the shot clock is 11 seconds longer , and you foul out after 5 fouls .

I was impressed by all 3 and am still on the tank bandwagon. I'm not saying don't devlop young guys we have , or don't play hard , but if you can land one of those three , the c's will be contenders within 3 years. Even if its a top 7 pick, that is a huge trade chips that could land us an all-star in a trade.

just to keep in mind, this thread was made at half time when wiggins sat out most of the first half with 2 fouls.
