I don't know. I like 'Melo's game, but if he's committed to a massive contract (and I've seen nothing that would say otherwise) I don't think it's worth it.

Melo + Rondo comprise a solid building block, but I think you'd need another Chandler/KG esque player to really compliment the pair, and having two guys on Max contracts could really hamper that.

In a heartbeat.

I'd prefer to keep Rondo to go with Melo, which means expirings or acquiring other talent to send to New York.

like a  Humpy Green first pick for melo? hmmmmmmmm......

lineup????
PG:rondo/pressey
SG:Bradley/crawford
SF: Melo/Wallace
PF: Bass/Sully
C: Olynyk/Fav

which then makes me wonder if HOUSTON would be interested in Bass, the way he has come out the gates playing fairly well...bass, brooks, 2014 first for asik

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lvo9r7d

so it would be 2 trades but i combined em....we would also trade maybe our 2014 and Nets 2014 first round pick

yes we lose our picks but would the re-build/bridge year be complete?

Roster:

rondo/pressey
bradley/crawford
melo/wallace
sully/ Olynyk
Asik/Fav

solid starting 5, great bench with olynyk the clinic, wallace and air jordan

hmmmmm just thinking here  ::)

All the bashing of Melo sounds awfully familiar to Paul Pierce when he was about that age

Yep. No one's a winner until they are.

Melo has never been the passer Pierce is.

The Knicks can keep him.  I hope they do and pay him 120 mill on his next contract.  I'd love for that to happen.

Does DJ White fit for your KG-esque center?
Well after all the money spent on Rondo and Melo, we only have enough for a Fab and White kind of a center :P

Throwing aside the salary for a second, talent wise, its a no brainer. Melo is a top 10 player in the game and Green is nowhere near that. Melo is also only 29 and has years of All-NBA quality basketball left in him.

That said, would he transform his game slightly to allow Rondo to be the main ball handler and allow Rondo to run an offense that sets him up to takes less shots but be more efficient in his offense? Will Melo realize he can still be the man without having to have the ball in his hands all the time or take ill advised shots? The answers to those questions are unanswerable but if you think you have a coach and organization that can get Melo to do those things then you have to make the trade.

Then there is the salary. The only way you commit to the trade is if you commit to the salary and the only reason you do that is if you are 100% convinced your organization has what it takes to harness Melo "ball hogging-all about me ways".

I think as a business decision you would have to make the trade and trust that the Celtics environment and coaching staff can transform Melo into something more efficient and deadly as a player. Its a massive risk but one that might catapult the Celtics into contention immediately.

All that said, I am not a fan of Melo or his game as it is currently constructed

Yes, in a heartbeat.

Carmelo is a top 15 player in the NBA, maybe top 10

Whatever Jeff Green is doing for this team now, Melo can do plus more.

And sure, Carmelo is a chucker, and I don't mind that. Scorers shoot. If Melo don't "chuck" the ball then I might as well have Gerald Wallace. But Melo is an underrated passer and a good rebounder which something that we can't say about Green.

There's so many possessions between him and Rondo, they will both have their share of the basketball and do what they want with it. But now instead of worrying about one guy on the offense, the defense worries about two.

PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

If such a deal came up, without hesitation, yes.

If I were starting my own team, Melo is NOT the first guy I would pick to build my team around

Having said that, if I had an opportunity to acquire him and the key piece I was giving up was Jeff Green, then it's a no-brainer.

If the Knicks are trading Carmelo Anthony, they are likely looking for a package to help them rebuild.  I would expect them to ask for a young player (Sullinger or Olynyk) and draft picks as part of the deal.

It would be interesting to see the responses if this thread was about Kevin Durant--who, as a player, is more similar to Carmelo than many people might want to admit.

Obviously age is a big difference there.

Obviously age is a big difference there.

And also: Durant is widely regarded as the leagues 2nd best player.  Melo is possibly top 10 but definitely has been passed by Paul George among forwards right now.  So.... I don't think they are that similar really.  Both scorers, sure.
