On this Gerald Wallace thing, for those that don't listen to the BS Report, go here:

http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=9931626

... and start listening at the 26:20 mark. Bill and Zach talked about it (including about Wallace's complaining). My favorite line, from Zach:

"Did you see Gerald Wallace's stat line last night? That is hard to do in the NBA. You put me in an NBA game for 28 minutes, I am taking a shot. I don't care if J.J. Barea rejects it 10 rows into the crowd, I am making sure that I record a field goal attempt in 28 minutes."

Coming from a pair of guys who've been known to complain about people shooting too much, that's a have your cake and eat it too argument.

There's a whole lot of real estate between Josh Smith's or Brandon Jenning's shot selection and a guy who doesn't take one an entire game.

Right. I'm actually rolling back to something Simmons said after the trade deadline last year--that Crawford seems like the least fun guy to play basketball with on the whole Celtics team via his shoot-first mentality.

At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

I did not post a complete transcript, just my favorite line. Listen to the piece, it only goes for two minutes before they change the subject to Memphis. The point was made (and it's a valid one) that it's pretty damaging to have a wing player that won't shoot, because nobody will guard them.

I would listen to it, but both of their voices drive me to thoughts of homicide.

Lowe's a solid writer with some nice insight into the game, though. He's usually not wrong.

But he is the leading assist man I believe.  Crawford is a good example of what I'm saying.  He isn't pretty but he produces and we need production badly.

You have to produce to win games.  They don't give you wins for trying real hard.

I agree with that. I'm pretty sure I'm on record saying I dig Crawford's game.

Wallace hasn't played well, but I'm not sure that should preclude him from offering commentary.

I don't understand how a guy who grabbed 10 rebounds a game a couple years ago can give 110% and only grab around 2 per game.  And not shooting at all doesn't seem consistent with giving 110%.

This is good leadership.  Watch it.  This guy was getting killed in the first half of his game because his line couldn't block the Texans (on one play, they let JJ Watt immediately through the line unblocked in the first) and he still says "we".  "We were getting our butts kicked".  This is leadership.

Or just make sure you catch a Tom Brady post-gamer. Not many NBA players get it, it seems.

That's too bad. I like Lowe, personally; he's a smart, non-partisan basketball fan. Anyway, Wallace's stat line is indefensible (in more than one respect), and probably needs to shut up, is the tl;dr.

I'm going to come down on the side of math, and say that it irritates me when players say that they were giving 110%. They mean 100%, and need to get their scales re-calibrated.

I'm still trying to figure out what Wallace said this time around that was so bad.  The negative reaction sounds more like "I hate Wallace and don't want to hear him talk" or "Wallace sucks and therefore should not be allowed to speak".

Some of the stuff he is saying here is the sort of routine observation you might expect from a coach or GM talking about a generic rebuilding team.  I just don't see the harm in Wallace saying this to the media.

He's not the coach, he's not the gm, he's a complaining scrub with an awful attitude and the worst, most selfish player on the team...he should stop complaining, shut his mouth, realize no good team wants him and lead by example instead of take this depressing, woe is me attitude to the media, better yet he should retire..his presence on this team andin the nba is useless....oh wait we're tanking...perfect leader

Lol. San Antonio would have to be an ignorant franchise, not a good one.

I think he's a good fit in San Antonio they need a backup SF too bad his contract is terrible.

I don't mind him speaking out.

I do mind his body language on the court, his terrible play so far, and the fact he feels a need to talk every day.  We're 4 games in, shut your pie hole and step your game up.

Lead by example, a good example.  Not by turning the ball over in crucial spots than complaining to reporters post game about the 'team'.  You're getting 10 M per.  Figure your role out, and lead.  Quit whining.

He's an awful fit for San Antonio's offense. Other than their big men they run a system that requires ball handling or shooting offensively. Wallace is a slasher (when he makes offensive moves at all) who doesn't fit them.
