Green is overpaid, he has really failed to emerge as a leader or focal point for this team with Rondo out, and if he isn't traded sometime in the next season or so, it'll only be because he's making too much money. 

I think Green will end up spending the latter part of his career much like Caron Butler -- making MLE money and getting passed around from one team to another, good enough to keep a job but not good enough to really make anybody want to pay to keep him.

I think Green is just a complementary player, but a great one who can on any given night step up to be more than that.  If you put him on say Houston or Memphis he would be huge.  He just isn't a go to guy in my opinion.

He is a great corner three shooter, a strong finisher, great athlete, great defender.

I don't really think he's overpaid either.  He just needs the right fit.  If he was playing on a team with someone like Dwight or ZBo or Marc Gasol who was being doubled in the post he would be great shooting from the corner and driving.

To me that sounds like a good argument for why Green would make a lot more sense for some other team than for the Celtics.  Hopefully you're right and he plays well enough to entice somebody like the Grizzlies or the Rockets to send up some assets for him.

Yes I very much agree.  I love watching Jeff play and I think there are better games ahead for him but he isn't going to be the reliable scorer we would need.

Memphis in particular could really use Jeff Green.  They desperately need shooting and his defensive ability would fit right in with what they do there.  He would be a big time upgrade over Prince.  Their inability to put shooters around ZBo and Gasol is what continues to make that team fail in the playoffs.


We will have to see what happens.

Anybody with basic NBA knowledge can look at this roster and see that it's a jumble of disparate parts and only perhaps 4 or 5 of these players is even being honestly evaluated for the purpose of maybe sticking around long term.  The rest are dust in the wind.

There are fourteen (fifteen, counting Colton Iverson) players on this team being "honestly evaluated."  The chances of many of them "sticking around long term" are admittedly slim, but that doesn't mean that Danny and the coaching staff aren't invested in all of them.  They are paying them to be here, and they want to get the best out of them. 

The only players on the team right now who I think have a real chance of being with the team beyond their current contracts are, in order of likelihood:

1. Olynyk
2. Sullinger
3. Faverani
4. Rondo
5. Bradley
6. Pressey

The rest I think are trade bait or destined to be let go once their contracts expire.

The team is undoubtedly evaluating every single player on the roster, but I don't think many of them are being looked at as future pieces.

I think that's a pretty good ranking.
