I am growing weary of this becoming too semantic an argument, but from my perspective, they're here, so they are part of the plan.
I look forward to your opinions on the long term implications of each out of bounds play the C's run this season then.

When you turn everyone and everything into a "long term" item you're losing the forest for the trees.

My take on it is meant, for me, as an antidote to the type of thinking that says, "they aren't part of the long term plan, so it doesn't really matter what they do as Celtics."

I think the above attitude exists.  I don't hold it.  For me, the play of Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee, Vitor Faverani, Jordan Crawford, Marshon Brooks, Phil Pressey, and Keith Bogans matters while they are Celtics.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

That is not what my comment meant.  The Celtics would love for them to play great so it becomes easier to move them for something (besides more bad contracts)

I just found the humor in the comment about the importance of them vs. Lee and Bass.

Although it's one preseason game, they played well. Right now I say they fit better into the Celtics plans than either Bass or Lee. We'll see if that stays true but I gotta give them credit where credit is due.

I've been saying this all along.

Wallace and Hump are simply better players than Bass and Lee, and have more potential to excel in the right scenario.  Wallace was a 15+ PPG scorer and elite defender only two seasons back, while Hump at that same time was averaging 14 and 10.

Lee never has (and likely never will) average more than 15 points per 36 minutes, and hds only once ever finished a season without a negative defensive rating.  Bass never has and never will average a double double in a season.

Wallace and Hump even in last year's state aee at least in par with Lee and Bass overall.  If they show even a hint of their former selves (as they did today) then Lee and Bass are far surpassed.

humphries i wasn't that impressed with but its only 1 preseason game

Both of these guys played well.  They hustled, and battled, which is all you can hope for from anyone.  I think both would be contributors on a good team.  Not sure what happened to them last year on the Nets, but they both have value, either on the court, or as part of a trade.  Especially Hump, with his expiring deal.  I think he would likely be the one to go, but I won't mind watching him if he plays out the rest of the season here.

agree i'm fine with both, i think hump has more chance of being traded as expiring deal and wallace has that huge contract
deron williams and the nets offensive system is what happened to them  :-\

I have no doubt that both Hump and Crash will play well this year and consequently increase their value so we can move them. They both have incentive to do so:

Hump is playing for his next contract and Crash wants to show a contender that he could be a valuable piece for the next 2 years so he can get out of town. He becomes an expiring after that with its own intrinsic value.

I love the versatility both bring to the floor.  I think they'll be the first to understand & define their roles early on.  They are vets, know their own games, and have a good feel of what they can or can't do.

People talked about Sullinger complimenting Olynyk and so on...but I think Hump compliments a guy like Sullinger pretty well and I could easily see both of them starting at the 4 & 5 positions together.

Crash can play the 2 & 3 at any point, and with anyone.  I think Stevens has a tough job in putting in these players with the right combinations, but he'll eventually find what works.

I personally want to see this group play out there more together :

Bradley, Wallace, Green, Sullinger, Humphries

They are not KG and PP but they are not total scrubs either.   Humphries played ok and I thought Wallace played well at times last night.   Humphries will be dealt at the trade deadline and I think we will get value back either picks or a young player from a team one big away from the final roster piece.   We are stuck with Wallace until 2015.

I think these guys will make the tanking by roster Ainge has choose to use on this team, fun to watch at times.

Wallace is a player I like, IMO he leaves the door open for a trade for either him or Green. If we could trade one of them and bring back a quality player at the 2 of 5 position that would help round out this team.

Humphries has been somewhat of a disappointment for me. I thought he would rebound better, but right now he is not, and we are getting killed on the boards again.

I agree with bello- watching preseason I've been really excited with how quick (is quick the right word for Wallace? I think "violent," or "twitchy" might be better) Wallace looks right now.

... I also think he's definitely still capable of taking a bunch of off-balance long 2's and easily posting up James Harden  ;D
