I was a Fab supporter early after draft.

But after watching his sorry job in summer league , poor court presence , overall lack of natural basketball IQ ,  it was best he head on down the road.

He is lucky to be with any team ....in the NBA anyway

Think he needs to go to another league, China , etc .....learn to play .

He is in over his head so much in the NBA

He was a fair gamble on a draft pick when we were expecting a couple solid playoff runs and had no expectation of actually playing him any meaningful minutes. You have to pay someone, after all, and if he does pan out you've got a 7ft shotblocker with 6 fouls on a late first round rookie contract.

Then, you know, the band broke up, and all of a sudden it was "dude, we might actually have to play him in real games," and out the door he went.

So...  you draft a kid because "we don't expect him to play  anyway...", and when you are now suddenly in the mode of player-development (and in desperate need of seven footers), you throw him out?

Makes sense to me....   ::)

I know the draft is a crapshoot, and that he was a fairly late selection...  and there weren't a lot of guys selected immediately after who have done a helluva lot.  You can say the same about JJJ.  But, for both guys, when a guy on a *cheap* rookie contract is cut before his second season - still getting paid, just not deemed worth of a roster spot - when Danny's last two first round picks are cut and out/nearly out of the league after ONE season, those are pure busts.

What a joke.  Take responsibility for your failure, dude.  Or accept the fact that you aren't made for this.  Waste of size

In all honesty, Fab was a top 5 player on that Summer League team.
Top 5 player on a team of flotsam and jetsam that will likely never make it to the NBA. Perhaps accurate, but still less than a glowing endorsement.

Having a glaring physical talent advantage over everyone makes him "passable". When he's dealing with real basketball talent at the NBA level he's completely lost. Heck if summer league play was more organized he might get as lost too, but its closer to pickup than an NBA game when it comes to attacking matchups and abusing help defense.

cry me a river Fab Melo.
Toughen up, and, please, be my guest and show the Celtics that they made a huge mistake by letting you go.

Straight to the point glad we still have the rights to Iverson than Melo.

Summer league matters. Summer league is a chance. KO played like it mattered to him.  Pressey played like it mattered to him.
yup, couldn't have said it better.

In all honesty, Fab was a top 5 player on that Summer League team.

There were two guys who were clearly better than him - Olynyk and Pressey.  After that you had Iverson and maybe one other guy who were about on par with Fab's production.  Yes he still made errors, but he was showing quite a massive improvement in Summer League this year compared to what he showed in Summer League / Preseason last year.  Improved jump shot, improved hook shot, better mobility.  Sure he still looked very raw, but outiside of maybe 4 guys everybody else on that summer league team was horrible, significantly worse than Fab from a talent (if not IQ) perspective.

Having a year of pro ball behind him already, he should have stood out more against the current rookie 2nd rounders, rather than matching production.

Sometimes, it's just too big/long of a project taking up room in the garage.  At the end of the day, he wasn't an asset.

Maybe an Asian league would take him,   I said before he on afarm working if he doesn't pay basketball.

He has not learned the hard lesson IMO ,  being tall doesn't necessarily get you a high paying gig in the NBA.

El Hombre is years ahead mentally ,  and is at a IQ level he can at least stay on the court for short periods and not hurt the team.

I wanted Fab to be suscessful,  really think it might take several years to even be a bench asset , he'll be 28 by the time he becomes useful.

Don't think he has the work ethic to make it or the true basketball mentality

  • You say when......
Well most of us know doc didn't hold practice....so how could he know what other, non, playing players could be.....kg and everyone here in Boston said / know doc didn't hold practices....so Fab did get screwed, as did Twill....and MANY other players......hopefully they will get a chance to show it later on another team...!!!

It looks more and more like he'll take the Hasheem Thabeet/any-other-fringe-NBA-youngster route.

Bounce around the league "earning a living" (still big bucks) and developing. If mature enough/lucky enough/*certain other factors*, develop into an actual rotation player.

Thabeet does seem like a good comparison. Melo certainly is much less of a bust than Thabeet but both extremely raw and selected for physical talents.
