Beasley's career avg are 14/5/1 in 26 mins. That's not mind blowing, not great, not lottery talent but to say he is garbage is laughable! If you don't like him say it, you think he has greatly underachieved say that, you think he's a troublemaker or a punk say that... but when you say ridiculous stuff like he is garbage then I want to know how a garbage player can even make it and stay in the NBA for 5 seasons? Don't say it's b/c of potential because there are many people who last less than a year or 2 who have potential (*cough* Fabricio). He can play, he just doesn't have it mentally.

No one has used the word "garbage" in this thread.  On the other hand, I think "cancer" is a reasonable label.

Yea, I wasn't really just talking about THIS thread that's why I didn't quote anyone. I have seen many articles w/ comments on him and other threads. I'm talking about the whole idea that he isn't an okay player.

Not about your comment- No, he is not in it just because of potential... if not for his attitude 14/5/1 is not bad and is good enough to remain in the NBA regardless if he gets any better. His attitude is the real reason he isn't on a team right now.

I'm not sure that's completely right.

You are right that his offensive numbers are pretty good - though, they've been declining steadily for his entire career. Just as one example his PER since his rookie season has gone like this: 17.2, 16.1, 15.5, 13.0, 10.8.

His PER last year of 10.8 ranked 271st out of 344 in the league - worse than Sebastian Telfair, Thomas Robinson, Tyler Zeller just to name a few. So, he rated as an extremely poor player by a metric that's pretty offense-oriented.

But, it's on defense that he is a disaster. In the last 4 year Synergy's points per possession rates him as 299th, 332nd, 256th and 307th in the league. That is just atrocious.

His teams have consistently been worse on both offense and defense with him on the floor, compared to off the court.

I'm not disputing that his attitude and drug issues are a problem for him, but I think at this point they are probably secondary.

The real problems are that he just makes his team worse when he's on the court, and that he's been doing nothing but decline during the age range when most players make dramatic improvements.

Looks like Heat just signed Beasley. Could end up a great pickup.
