I play Humphries, Wallace, Lee and Green a lot to see if I can inflate their trade value.

and as part of that line up i put fab melo at center each night. with melo out there for long periods of time, with hump, wallace, and green will get betters stats while the celtics lose night after night.

the best of both worlds.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

IF I was GM I would look to trade all except Rondo, Sullinger, and Olynick. If we trade enough players away those three can not make it to the playoffs. That being said I would think all three are pieces that we would want when making a championship run. Green is nice but expensive, Bradley will be off his rookie contract soon, and the rest of the players can be replaced quickly through free agency.

I wouldn't say that is the lineup, just make sure they all get enough minutes to have the chance to be over productive on a bad team.

JBcat:
I wouldn't mind a Wiggins / Green combo. After watching Wiggins i think he could definitely play the off guard spot - that guy is cat quick and long and also has decent range on his shot.

Yogi:
How nice would that be if Bass even slimmed down just a bit and became a stud defender at the three off the bench - a real bully. I hadn't thought of that but you ared correct, he played some very good defense on both LeBron and Melo in the playoffs. He has the strength to deal with them and with just a little bit more foot speed at a slightly lower weight he could be that much tougher of a defender.

LilRip:

pretty much like your whole post. particularly agree regarding Sully and Green. I think this is a heavy, heavy evaluation year and for Sully and Green that means finding out if they are truly starting material in the NBA. I mean if Sully could be a 15 & 10 guy and Green a 20/6/4 guy - if you then throw a truly dominant franchise level type player at the 5 or 2, you've got something going...

Loose Cannon:

Just enough growth so that the young guys get better through experience without that translating into a heavy win column. Kind of like OKC was for 2-3 years while they were accumulating more lottery picks...

So, you'd hate it if Olynyk earned the starting PF job and was Rookie of the Year?

Goals should just be...

#1 - Wait until Rondo is 110% healthy to bring him back.  Showcase him when he gets back and perhaps promptly trade him when the value is high enough.

#2 - Showcase the overpaid bums like Bass, Lee, Wallace... try to dump them for expiring contracts at the deadline if you can get any suckers to bite.

#3 - Develop and give the young trade chips like Oly, Sully, Bradley and Melo plenty of playing time to increase their trade value for the future.

#4 - Lose lots of games.  Land a top 5 pick.

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
Develop the young talent, try to trade the big contracts (Wallace, Bass, Lee), and hope Rondo comes back and isn't a shell of himself.

Loose Cannon:

I'd love it if Olynyk won rookie of the year. I also don't believe that would keep us out of the lottery. OKC went to the lottery the season after they landed Durant....

I just think there are two ways this team can go this year. If they:

1. Go all in with a blend of the mediocre, non game changing vets they have such as Humphries,Wallace,Bass & Lee.
2. Get major growth years out of Sully, Olynyk & Green

3. AND Rondo comes back and plays like a stud - I say this team lands somewhere between the 6th and 8th pick. I think they'll be much better than people think.

And while it's nice to make the playoffs, I don't feel it's the fast track to long term contention - more like medium term mediocrity...

Conversely, if they:

1. Are able to move move Humphries and Bass - both of which I think should be very easy, at leat by the trade deadline - Humphries is an expiring this year and Bass next...

2. Move Lee and Wallace - which will be more challenging, especially with Wallace - you might find a taker for Lee on a contender that needs a tough back up defender at the two.

3. Bring Rondo back slowly and in the meantime - play the crap out of Olynyk, Melo, Faverani, Sully, Green, Brooks, Crawford & and Pressey -

Olynyk could have a Rookie of the year season and all the other young guys could show major growth by being put through the fire of heavy minutes but I still don't think that would keep them out of the lottery.

The young guys would get a lot better but would be taking "a lot" of lumps in the process this season.

Then, you get a high lottery pick and continue to clear cap space with the intent of signing some significant talent in the summer of 2015 to compliment your young, growing players.

I think that's the real choice for management this season;

1. Are you playing to compete for the 6th to 8th spot and the 15th pick

or

2. Are you playing to develop your young guys as quickly as possible, which will "most likely" result in a trip to the lottery this year, but ultimately moves you ahead more quickly.

So I see this year as a major evaluation of which young guys we'll end up keeping as core and which ones we'll look to ship out in a package.

If this team adds a player like Parker or Wiggins, you are probably one trade away from securing a legitimate long term solution at center from competing for a title for a long time.

For me, I'm definitely in the move the vets, play the crap out of the young guys camp.

Can't say I disagree with any of this - pretty spot on.
