Nothing like Jennings and Smith on the same team.

LOL so true, so many long range shots. Then again, they  are only paying Jennings %8 million/year, that's good value considering everyone is thinking he'll get a near max.

With the defense of Drummond, Smith and potentially KCP (he's billed as a very good defender coming out of college), I think Jennings inefficiencies but great ability to score goes well with Detroit.

2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

Jennings is also a much better passer than his numbers might indicate.

The only way Detroit is going to score effectively is in transition.

Drummond and Smith are going to have to be strong defensive anchors for the team if they want to run.

I don't think they'll be that great because Monroe and Jennings are lazy defenders and Drummond can't throw outlet passes to save his life.

I don't see them making the playoffs.

I don't hate every player.

I'll admit that there are more players in the league that I don't like than players I do like.

And while the contract is fair for a player of Jennings' caliber, I don't like the fit for him in Detroit.

He reminds me of Monta Ellis in that way - he's a capable passer but just not willing. There's a ton of untapped potential in Brandon, but I just don't think Detroit is a good place to help him realize it.

If your name isn't Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Avery Bradley or Jeff Green, then you are awful (lol.)

I'm surprised by reactions to this. I think this is a great move for Detroit. It gives them exactly what they were lacking - a scorer and shooter who can spread the floor. Their defense will be rock solid with the Smith move, and they've added serious firepower.

You can judge his efficiency but, at the end of the day, he's a prolific scorer and extremely difficult guard. His percentages suck because he has a tendency to take horribly difficult shots. But all in all, he's a very good shooter.

If healthy, I can't think of a better back-up for Jennings in Billups - still very talented, can also fill it up, and could be a great influence on him as on of the steadiest PGs in the league. Can play some 2 also, if needed.

I immediately thought "Who is the 2?" Caldwell-Pope is very, very good and can improve on both ends (I watched him here at UGA this season). Given their youth, this won't be a great team. But they'll improve and I absolutely expect them to make the playoffs.

I see Billups as the third-stringer behind Will Bynum., but I agree, he could have a good influence on Jennings.

I also agree that Jennings is a shot-maker, but you mentioned his biggest flaw - he takes terrible shots.  I don't trust him to magically improve his shot selection.  Once a chucker, always a chucker (at least that's what I believe).

I'm also a big fan of KCP.  I think he could complement Jennings well as a shooter who doesn't need the ball a ton.

Defensively, Smith and Drummond aren't enough, in my opinion.  Jennings has a tendency to lose his man and play the passing lane at the wrong times.  Monroe is just a bad big-man defender in general.  KCP probably needs a year to learn NBA defense.

Finally, people forget that Mo Cheeks is the coach.  This is a guy who is taking on a team that's full of personalities and low BBIQs.  I don't see them making the playoffs, but that's just this guy's opinion.

Detroit isn't a playoff team to me.

Go ahead and try to name 8 teams that make it ahead of them.

Miami
Chicago
Indiana
Brooklyn
New York
Atlanta
Washington
Cleveland

Those last three teams will compete with Detroit, but I think the Pistons' lack of shooting will end up shooting them in the foot.

They should consider moving Monroe or Drummond to the bench and start Kyle Singler instead. Get some extra jump-shooting on the floor at quick forward and get Josh Smith back to his best position at power forward.

C: Monroe, Drummond
F: Smith, (Monroe),
F: Singler, Diatome
G: Stuckey, Caldwell-Pope, Billups
G: B.Jennings, W.Bynum

Spread the big man minutes out between those three. Get them 30-34mpg each. Remind me a little of the Lakers big man trio. Drummond as a young A.Bynum (defensive anchor, loads of potential). Josh Smith as Lamar Odom (multi-dimensional forward). Monroe as a poor man's Pau Gasol (skilled PF/C). With Drummond passing Monroe in the depth chart at some point and Monroe moving into a 6th man role (McHale-esque 6th man?).

Edit: With Stuckey going back to that sixth man combo guard role when KCP is ready to take over as starting two guard. Giving Detroit two major difference makers off the bench. Probably will need to upgrade that SF slot with Singler moving back to the bench. Nice tight 8 man rotation. Could be a title contender down the road if Drummond fulfills that massive potential of his. Detroit moving in a good direction.

Stuckey, Jennings, and Smith are all ball hogs and head cases. I don't see this ending well.
