Do you remember the mantra or cries of fellow Celtics fan who said, "RELEASE THE SHAV!"
Doc finally caved in, releasing the 'Shavinator.' I could go on for days with his nick names, but that is beside the point.
The late season who we put in as the trio of the Chinese pu-pu platter. Only two really seemed like they were going to be beneficial to the team. T-Will, who as everyone knows was waived a few weeks ago. While its a shame he was waived, it was understandably set upon by fate due to the gun charges, and the recent Aaron Hernadez case.
Shav grabbed 26.3% of all available defense rebounds, and 22.4% overall. While it was the best slated under PER, it was also a very small sample size of 197 minutes. Although, foul prone it was due to the fact he was still a rookie, and wasn't fully recognized as a legitimate player by the eyes of the refs.
Tommy seemed to love him, and would exclaim whether a defensive or offensive rebound was grabbed, his purest adoration for this hustle player. A very good hustle, and humble locker room type of guy. He was a great 2nd unit PF/C player.
Unfortunately, we have too many players at the PF. The only slot available for him would be the C. Iverson has already signed a 2 year deal with Turkey, so technically there is only 1-2 legit players who could cover that spot. We're still over the luxury tax, and are looking to avoid the repeater tax.
Danny has to make the decision, by the deadline of August 1st, to see if his affordable 1.1 million contract is guaranteed. Considering they have a log jam at SG/PF. I can see him being a hustle type of 5-10 minutes Center. His defense is still pretty bad, but that's considering he hasn't spent that many years in the NBA. And he's willing to play through blood, sweat, and tears to earn his keep.
Randolph says he's convinced that he'll stay. Not entirely, but he is planning on returning to the Celtics, and would love to play for them. He knows some team may be interested, but his first choice is the Celtics.
I didn't like him at first, but I warmed up to him. Its hard not to like a guy who puts up his body, and even draws some charges. It is also hard not to love a guy who really maintains a professional, and quiet demeanor. Chris Forsberg says at this point waiving him won't keep us under the luxury tax. So we might as well keep him, and explore other trade options for other players.
http://www.csnne.com/blog/celtics-talk/randolph-planning-remain-celtics"I've shown when I'm healthy, I can be a good role player, a good rotation player helping off the bench," Randolph said. "I still expect to be in Boston, but it's not like it's a do-or-die kind of thing for me. I feel good about playing in the NBA next season. Hopefully it'll be with the Celtics."He's also talked with Brad Stevens, who has said good things from him based on the article.
I'd love to keep him, and Chris is right. If we're not getting under the luxury tax, why not at least keep him? We have a couple contracts we can get rid of if we package some picks, and try to get another expiring in return. So why not give him a chance, or a try?
