Do you remember the mantra or cries of fellow Celtics fan who said, "RELEASE THE SHAV!"

Doc finally caved in, releasing the 'Shavinator.' I could go on for days with his nick names, but that is beside the point.

The late season who we put in as the trio of the Chinese pu-pu platter. Only two really seemed like they were going to be beneficial to the team. T-Will, who as everyone knows was waived a few weeks ago. While its a shame he was waived, it was understandably set upon by fate due to the gun charges, and the recent Aaron Hernadez case.

Shav grabbed 26.3% of all available defense rebounds, and 22.4% overall. While it was the best slated under PER, it was also a very small sample size of 197 minutes. Although, foul prone it was due to the fact he was still a rookie, and wasn't fully recognized as a legitimate player by the eyes of the refs.

Tommy seemed to love him, and would exclaim whether a defensive or offensive rebound was grabbed, his purest adoration for this hustle player. A very good hustle, and humble locker room type of guy. He was a great 2nd unit PF/C player.

Unfortunately, we have too many players at the PF. The only slot available for him would be the C. Iverson has already signed a 2 year deal with Turkey, so technically there is only 1-2 legit players who could cover that spot. We're still over the luxury tax, and are looking to avoid the repeater tax.

Danny has to make the decision, by the deadline of August 1st, to see if his affordable 1.1 million contract is guaranteed. Considering they have a log jam at SG/PF. I can see him being a hustle type of 5-10 minutes Center. His defense is still pretty bad, but that's considering he hasn't spent that many years in the NBA. And he's willing to play through blood, sweat, and tears to earn his keep.

Randolph says he's convinced that he'll stay. Not entirely, but he is planning on returning to the Celtics, and would love to play for them. He knows some team may be interested, but his first choice is the Celtics.

I didn't like him at first, but I warmed up to him. Its hard not to like a guy who puts up his body, and even draws some charges. It is also hard not to love a guy who really maintains a professional, and quiet demeanor. Chris Forsberg says at this point waiving him won't keep us under the luxury tax. So we might as well keep him, and explore other trade options for other players.

"I've shown when I'm healthy, I can be a good role player, a good rotation player helping off the bench," Randolph said. "I still expect to be in Boston, but it's not like it's a do-or-die kind of thing for me. I feel good about playing in the NBA next season. Hopefully it'll be with the Celtics."

He's also talked with Brad Stevens, who has said good things from him based on the article.

I'd love to keep him, and Chris is right. If we're not getting under the luxury tax, why not at least keep him? We have a couple contracts we can get rid of if we package some picks, and try to get another expiring in return. So why not give him a chance, or a try?

Currently we'd be at ~$73.1M if we kept Shav. We're aiming to get under ~$71.5M. That's only a ~$1.6M difference, and I'd like to think Ainge could trim that ~$1.6M through a Crawford, Bass, or Lee trade. So ideally, I'd like to keep Shav.

At the same time, the signing of Faverani really clouds things up and I'm not sure if that was Ainge's way of saying he's ready to move on from Shav. We'll see in less than a week.

My guess is they would like to keep him around if they can shed themselves of the Bass, Crawford or Lee contract. This ear is all about not spending money and getting under the luxury cap. Not having to sign Iverson help but only a little. The Celtics really need to get rid of players without having to give up a number 1 pick to do so

All I can say is its definitely a good sign for Shav, if he hasn't been waived yet. Terrence Williams was waived like a year early lol.

Faverani is still unproven, and didn't even start. The problem is I think if Iverson went to Turkey, that the suitors to try to find trade options for Bass/Crawford or Lee fell through. But we'll see.

I hope he does stay though. I might actually get a Randolph jersey if he does ;)

we dont need him if we rebuild and we already have enough power forwards, so I'd rather wave him while he is fully unguaranteed...

The reason I'd keep Shav is that if he continues his rebounding pace he could be a really good chip at the deadline for a team that is a contender who needs rebounding.

Meh. Shav played all right in garbage time.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

The thing is, Randolph is a PF who can slide to C if needed. Plus, even if we waive Randolph, we'd still be ~$500K away from being under the luxury tax, so we'd have to continue shedding salary, anyway. It'd make more sense to keep Shav and cut salary elsewhere.

Shav gets my vote good backup power forward and center on the cheap.

Five fouls over 6'10" is always a good thing if not named Potapenko.

It just doesn't matter to me.

He is a low bench guy.  If he can't win a job, oh well.

Shav will be turning 30 in November. He is not in our long range plans. Unless we can trade some players between now and Aug 1, I would say to cut him.

This is not an attack on OP, but it's threads like this that made me loathe the day the rebuild would begin.

It brings back memories of the dark days when we used to debate the merits of barely NBA quality players and whether they should be on the team or not.

Shav may deserve a spot, but ultimately whether he is on the team or not means very little.

it does to a point though
if he is on the team and can give us the same production as bass lets say then its a money saving thing for luxury tax
i'm not counting on him to lead us to the playoffs, but if shav is a production 3rd big at either position pf or c i'm ok with it
i still can't understand what we are going to do with humpries, bass and sully sharing minutes not even taking into account that ko or wallace can give minutes at pf, green as well

Rather have Shav than Melo
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin
