Quote
It was civil until Tanguay asked, "Does Bill Belichick owe an explanation to Patriot fans, to the media, everybody watching on how and why a player under his watch is charged with murder?"

Minihane said Belichick didn't owe an explanation. He then asked if a Subway manager owed an explanation if one of his employees (a sandwich artist, we presume) killed someone.

Tanguay was offended, saying, "You can't even make the comparison!" before continuing,"I don't look at it the same way you do." Because the New England Patriots are Important, or something. Then everything blew up.

Both men started raising their voices and pronouncing, "You're full of crap." Tanguay, louder and shriller and quite clearly the Better Patriot, went on a surprisingly hate-filled and personal rant, calling Minihane a moron and as cold-blooded as Belichick, before saying, "You don't have a heart!"

Minihane, however, evidently does have a heart, and clearly hurt by Tanguay's words, went on his own mini-rant. CSN cut to commercial, but before the break, Minihane quietly admitted to Tanguay, "I hate you."

"No you don't," Tanguay responded. But we don't know, man. He probably hates you.

Video is hilarious, and for the record, I liked the Subway analogy.

Tanguay is an absolute moron.

The homeless man's Skip Bayless without the preparation.  Just a troll and does a pretty bad job at it too.

Tanguay is much better than Minihane, WEEI's professional contrarian.

"Well it's on Wednesday, so..."

I don't envy the full-time guys during the offseason. Manufacturing ledes to fill airtime is brutal.

Minihane may be a contrarian and I think he's dead on about this Belichick thing.

I don't know if Tanguay was legitimately trying to incite debate here or just plain stupid.

There's a reason he was kicked off Sportshub & replaced with Gresh.

How is the Boston sports media really this bad?  It's rather amazing.

Coasting on the laurels and reputation that their predecessors have built up.

I don't understand why these clowns aren't fired.  They single-handedly ruin Boston athletes' reputation and make the city less appealing to players.  Just getting rid of them would translate to success.

There used to be a lot of great writers, and there still are some ones I like, but they don't get any real TV time on what is the official channel of the Celtics.  To me it's pretty terrible.  The one quality guy they had was Scal and he's out now.

It's either guys like Tanguay, bombastic and uninformed, or guys like A Sherrod.... just uninformed.

It is not just Boston. The problem with the media is everywhere. I grew up in Pittsburgh and there were some great sportswriters and great sportscaster. Now it is a bunch of pretty boys who know nothing and guys are just spout off opinions with nothing to back it up. The later might have known something years ago but now they just "mail it". A Myron Cope with his horrible voice but great knowledge would never get a job today. There is a pretty boy with a great voice who does a lot of sports in Pittsburgh and I cringe every time he comes on because the average fan walking down the street knows far more than he does.

It certainly doesn't help that places like Grantland and MMQB poach the quality sportswriters when they do appear.

Both have reasonable positions. The idiocy is in thinking that there is only one reasonable approach and that it would be solved by talking louder.

It makes perfect sense for a president of football operations to address the media about big news items that happen on the team. On the other hand, the team has no culpability in any of this. You can't predict this stuff.

The Subway analogy was good, and so what the point about Kraft addressing the press.

Personally, I feel that if Kraft already addressed the press, then he represented the organization. The press will always want to bring the talk back to sensational discussions like Hernandez or Tebow, but that doesn't mean you have to go there. There is no new information to share, just potential fluff quotations to pad news stories in a slow period for sports.

I respectfully disagree. Tanguay is nothing but a voice, a set of frames, and some hair.
