I would like to add a player of Aldridge's talents next year after we make a relatively high draft pick in a stacked draft and have let our young players develop for a year. Now is not the time to be adding a win now player though.
To realistically acquire Aldridge we'll need a high draft pick to send to Portland for him. So next year is probably the first time we'll be able to put in a competitive offer for him.

I'd LOVE to have Aldridge.

If Portland accepted a package of Green, Sully and Bradley, I would make that deal in a heartbeat.

You still have the likes of Rondo, Brooks, Lee, Wallace, Bass and Humphries to balance out the roster with a true star like LMA.

I'd do that trade any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Players like Aldridge don't become available that often, you have to strike while the iron is hot.

Danny should go after him to add to Rondo.  I'd also like to see him make a move for Asik who's now the odd man out in Houston.

PG - Rondo
SG -
SF -
PF - Aldridge
C - Asik

That has the makings of a solid foundation.  Even after trading for LMA, the C's will still have assets in the cupboard.  I don't look at it as win-now necessarily but more of a shift towards winning in two-three years.

Lamarcus Aldridge would be great to have... If it wasnt this year.. He wouldnt fit in our plans this year to try and get one of those superstars in next years draft.

If Ainge could acquire LMA and still have the assets left over and opportunity to acquire another high-level player, shouldn't the Celtics consider shifting gears and going with a win-now strategy instead of hoping to draft a superstar?

The team should be flexible and not have the tunnel vision of being locked onto one path.

For sure, but it would depend on the other player in question and whether that player would really be the next piece for a title.
Adding a 27 year old all-star PF who is under contract for 2 more years (just like Rondo) certainly qualifies.

Now I don't think Portland would have any interest in any trade package the C's could offer, so its all just fun speculation.

If I were in Ainge's chair, then I would start seeing how much it would cost to get players that Portland wants.  Of course, I might prefer some of those players over Aldridge.  It'd be bad GMing to think that Portland doesn't want what the Celtics have to offer and stop there.

I'm sure he's making calls, but I don't think any of the players mentioned in the article are available to the C's for what they have to offer either.

Sulli and 1st should do it, throw in some salary relief to make the numbers work?

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
http://www.csnnw.com/blog/blazers-talk/source-aldridges-rep-meets-olshey-talk-trade-scenarios

Apparently his camp has met with the Blazers to talk possible trade scenarios. LMA himself hasn't officially requested a trade, but he's definitely not opposed to the idea. Supposedly Portland is trying to swing for the fences with names like Noah, Love, Griffin, Horford, and Davis, and trading for draft picks will not be an option.

If I'm Chicago, I would absolutely consider trading Noah for Aldridge.
consider it?  I would do it without question.  I'd probably also make the trade if I'm Minnesota with Love (given his injury history, his unhappiness, etc.).  I'd consider it if I'm Atlanta for Horford as well.  No way do I move Davis for him or Blake unless Portland sweetens the deal (and I still might not).

What? Noah for Alridge...

Noah is the heart and soul of the team...

I would never ever if I was Chicago trade Noah for Alridge...

psuedo-star.

will never win you a championship.

But it helps with the foundation to bring  in the star that will.

Rondo/Green/Aldridge....Thats pretty good right there if your an FA looking to win.

A homer at its finest.

An unproven PF who did well, but played 10 less starting minutes, and still got injured with a bad back and a 2014 or 2015 1st is going to land us an Allstar big man.

Yup.

I look at it as both, a move to win-now and a move for the future, which is the ideal scenario!

By the way, good idea about picking up Asik. He would make a good front-court with LMA.

Next to impossible to bring in Aldrdidge without giving up Green or Rondo.

If it were possible, would you do:
Aldridge to Boston
Bass and a first to Phoenix
Gortat, Lee, Sullinger, and a first (maybe two) to Portland

The first round picks would be stipulated to be the worst among the picks the Celtics possess in each of the years 2014-2016.

Would you rather keep Sullinger and Lee and just trade Bass and a first for Gortat?

Thanks :)

You're right it would put the Celtics in position to make the playoffs this year.  I was thinking they wouldn't be title contenders until more pieces were added over the next couple if seasons.
