This guy was like a Rondo who could score in college, and if he's ready for the NBA it could be a scary one-two punch from our point guards. Great signing, Danny.
Are you saying that Pressey was a good scorer in college? In his senior season, he shot 37.6 from the field, 32.4 percent from three and averaged 11.9 points on 11.0 shots a game. In his junior season, he shot 42.8 percent, 36.5 percent from three and averaged 10.3 points on 7.7 shots. He was far from a capable scorer in college. His offense projects to be bad in the NBA.
Most worrisome about his college stats are his low 2-point shooting percentages. They were 41, 47 and 41 percent. It's hard to get established if you're such a bad scorer within the arc. Rondo shot 55 and 54 percent on 2s at Kentucky.
Instead of Pressey, I wished they had taken a chance with BJ Young. Maybe they did and he just decided to play for Houston's summer league team instead. Before Young struggled with his long-range shooting last season, he was looked at as a possible lottery choice before the season. He shot 55 and 53 percent within the arc. His physical gifts are far superior to Pressey's and his skill level is very high. Despite his assist numbers, I think he has point guard level vision. He looked really good in Orlando and just landed a contract with Houston.
