Tanking for 2 top ten picks will make it all better

With the new CBA and luxtax rules, rebuilds might not be as long as painful.  Team, especially luxtax repeaters, will not be able to hoard both top talent and quality rotation vets.

The new blueprint is for a team to tank their way to a top pick, who hopefully is a franchise player, and then follow that up by a top third of the draft pick, as hopefully either another star or a quality starter, and then, as the team shed it's salary obligations, surround the young core with a few FA vets.

That's what Indy did, hitting a grand slam with Paul George at 10, a home run with Hibbert at 17, and a double with Lance Stevenson at 40.  They brought in FA David West, and will be able to further strengthen their team with Granger and his expiring deal.

If the Cs picked a keeper this year in KO, and then hit with a top 5 pick next year, they'll be a long way toward respectability.  Once they clear off vet contracts like Bass and Lee, they can add a few vets that fit the team better and play winning ball in year 3, and contend in year 4, if things break right for them.

I'm actually looking forward to following the rebuild.

I'll watch the games, and root for the Celtics always, but I just can't get my heart and soul into the rebuild like I did during the last 20 year process.  I can't handle hoping that we're going to win the lottery or that Joe Forte is going to be a building block (ok, I never actually believed that, but I did get hyped up over an endless stream of hopefuls and guys Pitino traded away).  Maybe I will when they start playing games again, but right now it's such a letdown.  I can be that fan that gets excited for the young guys, I just can't handle doing it forever again.  I'm just hopeful they play good hard, basketball.  Be a likable team if you're not going to be a contender, or even just above average.

TP. My sentiments exactly.

I am not wired to hyperbolize endlessly about role players, or to lie to myself intellectually about them becoming stars when it's obvious they won't - two apparent staples of surviving budget cuts, otherwise known as a rebuild.

No question that my interest level in the Celtics has been diminished.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Buy Beer...Lots and lots of Beer... LOL!

I am looking forward to it. The first three years of this last run was fun. But the last two were a bit painful.

Yeah its going to be painful the next couple years, but its a different kind. Almost like watching your kids play a sport in the beginning. Its chaotic, erratic, frustrating, but when they do some thing good its exciting. When they win, we go out for Ice Cream! :P

I LOVE rebuilding. The rumors, trades, and draft picks happen more frequently and with greater consequence.  This is when the die hards stick around and post about all the possibilities.  We did it before, and we will do it again.

What. You can't get fired up for the Heat three-peat?  :'(
I am with the OP. Other than watching KO, Sully and Rondo, there is not much on This team that excites me. Hope Danny's plan works, but I just can't get fired up for the likes of Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Keith Bogans, Brandon Bass, etc. my watching will be much less this year, especially now that my season tickets are gone -- 14 years.

For me I am excited. I love to see what they will pull off. There will be a lot of trades and positioning and then they will make a package trade for a great player. Then again maybe they will build like OKC. Doesn't matter to me. The ownership is a lot different then past owners, they are very smart, patient and aggressive. Love it...Can't wait.

I know the C's gave us reason to feel they were contenders for the last 6 years -- even last year before Rondo and Sully went down.   It’s hard to go back to that pre-2007 feeling.    But, we all know this team was done contending for a championship.

So I think the glass half-full approach is to embrace the new C's.   KO looks fun to watch. It will be a blast to watch Sully develop.  Rondo-Bradley will have a full season to grow together.  And Jeff Green -- who knows  - maybe he becomes a consistent force.  Humphries will be traded for another asset and Danny will have 2 1st rounders in a good draft next year.  Hope for lottery or hope that the current team develops beyond our wildest imagination.  Either way, it's good.  Either way, it's at least 1 year ahead of where we'd be without the Doc or Nets deals.  Oh, and this young coach may be something special -- will be fun to see how he develops this young team.
