I'll watch the games, and root for the Celtics always, but I just can't get my heart and soul into the rebuild like I did during the last 20 year process.  I can't handle hoping that we're going to win the lottery or that Joe Forte is going to be a building block (ok, I never actually believed that, but I did get hyped up over an endless stream of hopefuls and guys Pitino traded away).  Maybe I will when they start playing games again, but right now it's such a letdown.  I can be that fan that gets excited for the young guys, I just can't handle doing it forever again.  I'm just hopeful they play good hard, basketball.  Be a likable team if you're not going to be a contender, or even just above average.

Yup

Tanking for 1 guy rarely works - especially for the Celtics.

Though I guess they're due.

I hear you, the big difference this time is we have owners who are committed and a GM that gets things done. Together I feel good about them getting the Celtics back quicker than the last rebuild. We don't have an ego maniac in Pitino that wanted to control every thing when he had no business running the GM position.
We will not have to wait to long and already have a good young core start with plus a ton of picks.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.

Not necessarily one guy. I'm hoping the scouts are right that this draft will be as deep as 2003.
I like Marcus Smart

Don't worry, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised on how good we'll play next year. Unless Ainge does a few more moves to deteriorate the team, but as it is, we should have a surprisingly exciting team... and one that will play some good defense, and those teams give themselves an opportunity to win every night.

Wiggins is the cream, but the rest of the crop looks to have franchise-altering talent as well. #1 is where we obviously want to be, but 2-5 will net us a very good player, potentially better than anyone currently on our roster.

But I agree, if this drags out nearly as long as the last one, it's going to get very frustrating.

I hope so too.  I just don't know that they have a closer, and I think that is ultimately what will get them in the lottery.  Remember how many tragically close losses they had the year they were going for Oden/Durant.
Yup

True, but I'd argue that Rondo has been a clutch player (when he's not doing his walking up the floor 4th quarter routine), and I thought Jeff Green was our most clutch player last year in my opinion. He often hit the big 3s and had a few game winners if I recall correctly.

But it's a valid point.

I can totally get what you are saying, but I would hate even more being in forever mediocrity (Bucks or 76ers). Or have a ownership group you can't stand (Red Sox). We have a great GM. A great Coach and we have great owners.

I respect our team a lot more than lets say the Brooklyn Nets who are buying a championship at this point or the Heat who ganged up to form a super team. I mean yeah they are winning but winning is not everything.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I'll believe the tanking talk when I see it. I think the players and coach have every intention of play hard and trying to win every game that they can. Danny is trying to get our cap situation set up for the future. It might not lead to immediate wins, but I don't think we'll be intentionally gunning for a horrible record. It's not good for player development, it's not good for building a winning culture, and it looks bad.

so thats your excuse? skip out on wiggins (once in a decade superstar) for a "winning culture" aka getting knocked out in the 1st round of the playoffs?

How was OKC 3-4 years after trading ray allen? oh thats right, they were losing games like crazy for ping pong balls because they trusted their GMs drafting ability. looks like tanking didnt affect their winning culture after 3 years of tanking, they're set as true contenders for the next decade with a 1-2 punch.

Until Rondo is paired up with a superstar, we're not winning anything.

It's summertime, the weather is nice but you may feel different when the season starts.   Everyone needs a break once in a while.
