Now this thread isn't to discuss whether Rondo is a good idea to build around or not. Whether he can actually be a leader or yadda yadda yadda. For discussion sake lets just say Ainge has decided to build around Rondo.

Rondo is a unique PG and almost old school so I think it's very interesting to discuss players who would fit well with an athletic, slashing, ball dominant, pass happy PG.

Players who I don't think would fit:

-poor shooters at multiple positions (not all 4 other starters need to be great shooters but at least 2)

-ball dominant scorers (James Harden, Kobe Bryant, ect.)

-Bigs who clog the lane (Perkins, Reggie Evans, Haywood, ect)

Who do you think would fit well with Rondo?

Kevin Durant and Lebron James would do. Throw in Dirk as well.

Perkins wasn't a good fit when he played here?

Not here to really debate that. Was simply using his game as one I didn't think would mesh well.

Ugh, nevermind. Already don't like the direction of this thread.

If you're going to build a team around a PG who can't really shoot, racks up a bunch of assists, and makes crazy layups that should never go in.... this is basically the Spurs, except Rondo plays defense. Get Timmy and Kahwi on the plane.

Two wings who are above average three-point shooters and thrive in catch-and-shoot situations, a stretch-four who can hit a three, and a center who can anchor the defense and handle a pass from Rondo for an easy bucket.

A 5 that can protect the rim consistently, someone with good enough hands to handle Rondo's passes.

A stretch 4 for an effective pick & pop game (Sully/KO?)

An athletic 3 that can defend + get out in transition. Can also hit the 3 at a decent clip, but can finish at the rim strong. Ideally can score 18ppg. (Jeff Green. If he can really develop a pull up jumper, that'd be lovely.)

A 2 that can score consistently and is an above average shooter - not necessarily a 20ppg guy, but at least can get you 15-17ppg. (At this point, not Avery Bradley. I think of him more as a 6th man on my ideal C's team).
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

I actually think Bradley is the perfect fit next to Rondo and ultimately worth more to the C's than anyone else, given his skill set. The last time we saw him was pretty discouraging, in his flailing attempts to facilitate our half court, but that's not what he does. He excels scoring off the ball and being a nag to opposition's back court.

If his 13-14 is like his second half of 11-12(or better) showing, I wonder what he'll get offered as an RFA...

Bradley is a good fit next to Rondo if he can catch-and-shoot at a higher percentage. Shooting threes like he did in 2011-12 while shooting long twos like he did in 2012-13 would be a lethal mix.
