They're dumping Bidrins and Jefferson on the Jazz. That frees up enough room to sign Iggy outright.

I think it depends on what Iggy's starting number is, which I haven't bothered to calculate.

It would be easy enough to add Iggy in as a S&T, because Golden State will have a huge trade exception out of the Utah aspect of the deal, I believe.  That trade exception disappears if they need to use cap room, so it's use it or lose it.

With Rush going out I think they have enough room.

Yeah.  There are pluses and minuses to both approaches:

S&T:  Golden State would be effectively hard-capped at the luxury tax apron, I believe.

Sign outright:  Golden State would have to renounce the free agent rights to Landry and Jack; would lose use of the MLE.

I'm gonna bet on a S&T.

It also depends on Dwight.

Jack is gone no matter what I think though.

Rush makes it possible to sign him, definitely.  In a sign-and-trade, however, if Iggy were signed at the first year value of a Jefferson trade exception, he would get about $47.6 over four years, which is close enough to 4/48 to be plausible.  A Biedrins trade exception could actually help on negotiating with the lakers in case they want to dump MWP:

Lakers get:
Bogut
Barnes or Thompson
Ezeli
Pick
$7.7 mil exception for MWP

Warriors get:
Howard
MWP

This would leave Golden State with about $8 mil below the apron, which might be enough to brig back jack, and then fill the roster with min salaries.

I spoke too soon about no downside to GS.  If the gamble to get Howard doesn't pay off, they had to renounce both Jack and Carl Landry, who's combined contributions are probably just as good as Iggy's.  Still, a good ballsy gamble to make for a potential much bigger payoff.  It's a bit like us adding Ray to try to land KG.  Really some aggressive GMing by GS.  Impressive.

Yeah, if there was one proposition that I would have bet my hat on at the start of free agency, it was that Iggy would go to the highest bidder.  He doesn't strike me as a guy who leaves money on the table unless there's a really good reason to.

Wonder what Houston's fallback plan would be. Would they really want to commit anything near max money to Josh Smith?  I think Smith is worth more like 11M or so.  I realize he'll probably get more than that, but that's what I think he's worth.

Since nothing can be official until July 10, if I do the math right (and I really only estimated in my head), the Jazz might be able to sneak in a S&T for Millsap if they only take back $4-5 million, depending on where the cap actually ends up.  If Ainge still wants Millsap, he could do Lee/White/Randolph to give Milsap up to $9m or so per year and toss in a draft pick.

Assuming they don't renounce him first, yes, they have a little room depending where the cap ends up, but I don't think they want to take on any salary.
