From what I'm told, should Howard decide on GST, & LA is unwilling 2 sign-trade, it has teams willing 2 assume salaries of AB, Biedrins & RJ

This may not have much to do with Dwight.  The Warriora are way over the tax and would like to bring back Jarrett Jack and maybe have the full MLE to use.  Also, if they are Howard's #1 choice, they need to be under the apron post sign-and-trade (which the lakers will do, because otherwise Howard leaves for nothing.  But they're trying to clear one salary, not three.

Amnesty Beirdrins + Stretch provision Jefferson + Trade Bogut and Rush for a 2nd round pick to a team that can absorb their deals = Cap space for Howard.

Don't want Bogut.  it would have to take Curry for us to give away precious cap space.

So the Warriors would be:

G - S.Curry,
G - K.Thompson/H.Barnes
F - B.Rush
F - D.Lee, Dray Green
C - D.Howard, F.Ezeli

I kinda feel sorry for David Lee. I think Dwight's presence in the paint will make space and opportunities difficult for him to come by. A lot like they did with Pau Gasol. I think his impact will drop off.

The S.Curry + Klay or H.Barnes + Dwight trio is pretty nasty though. Surround them with some strong role players and that could trio could be a title contender. Maybe trade off David Lee to find a few of those pieces.

They are going to have to get rid of at least one of klay or barnes in order to make it worth it for another team to eat the dead salary coming their way.

I wonder if Atlanta would consider Bogut + Humphries while Boston gets Josh Smith, with the assumption that the Celtics have any interest in Smith.

Umm, Bogut is only signed for a year, and we have no cap space anyway, so, no, it wouldn't have to take Curry.  Just depends how much ownership would be willing to purchase a draft pick for.

It looks like Danny is looking to add 2 stars. So I don't think player like Bogut is in his mind. Maybe more like Alridge or Love caliber.

Can someone clarify the rules of trade exceptions?  I thought we are getting like a 7 million dollar trade exception from the Nets. Can you include that in with other players to match salary?

Also, can't teams take back 150% salary in a trade regardless?

Like... if Bogut (14 mil expiring), Jefferson (11 mil expiring) and Biedrins (9 mil expiring) = 34 million...

Can't they trade all three and get back 23 mil since with the new rules they only have to match within 150% of each other?  Is that wrong?

Cuz if so... couldn't we could technically trade them Wallace (10 mil), Bass (6.5 mil), Lee (5 mil), Crawford (2 mil) ... total 23.5 mil  and it would work financially??

Golden State would be freeing up 10 million in cap space and have enough to offer Dwight the max.  Boston would be dumping their bad contracts for expirings.  If you could include the 7 mil trade exception you could just send them Wallace, Bass and the trade exception and it would still work, right?

Someone correct me if I'm misunderstanding some rules.

Actually, I think Golden State is further over the cap than I realized.

For Golden State, it depends who they're trading to.  If they trade to a team under the cap, who stays under the cap post trade, they don't have to take any salary back.  If they trade to a team who is over the cap, but under the tax apron, that team could take $5 mil more than they receive.  If they trade to a team over the tax apron, that team can take back 125% + $100000 of what they receive (this is why we're taking back a lot of salary with the Nets).  If they trade to a team with a large enough exception, they can take back zero. The exception has to be large enough to take back a single contract, or multiple contracts, completely.  You can't combine it with other players.  (I think Orlando is currently the only team with a large enough exception to take back any of the contracts).

For our trade with the Nets, it is unclear exactly how much salary we're taking back due to Bogans, but it's about $28 mil.  Meanwhile, we are sending out a shade over $33 mil.  Due to the 125% rule, we would technically be allowed to take back a little over $41 million, which means that of golden state hopped into our deal with NJ, we could take back either Jefferson or Biedrins without having to send them any salary.  If we sent them White or Randolph, we could take back any of their bad contracts, but not all.  Presumably if we decided to help out we would be getting some sort of draft compensation, which is probably what other teams interested in helping would also get.  (Festus Ezeli migh also be available, given that he's hurt and plays Dwight's position, and maybe the draft-and-stash player I think they drafted last week).  Don't know if we'd want to go back over the luxury tax for that, but we could do it.

Thanks saltlover for this very informative post.
I can see Danny try to take ezely and 1st pick to help GS.
If DH goes to GS, that's it, I won't root for them anymore.
They just need Lee healthy get rid of their expiring contrats to acquire other bench players and they can compete. I don't get the DH move.

I forgot we hadn't actually completed the Brooklyn trade yet. I'd take on biedrin's salary if GS gave us 1 or 2 future unprotected (15+17?) unprotected picks.

Trade them Bass + Randolph + White for Jefferson. That's 5+ Million right there, and they get a couple of useful bigs out of it.

This is a great idea. We need all the picks we can get.
