I forgot we hadn't actually completed the Brooklyn trade yet. I'd take on biedrin's salary if GS gave us 1 or 2 future unprotected (15+17?) unprotected picks.

You can probably get Biedrins for one pick, and it will probably be unprotected, or maybe Ezeli, but not two or both a pick and Ezeli.  To clear salary, they'll have to send at least one pick in each of three trades to three teams, and Biedrins contract is the cheapest.  There are enough tanking teams with cap room so as to not be able to drive too hard of a bargain.

Trade them Bass + Randolph + White for Jefferson. That's 5+ Million right there, and they get a couple of useful bigs out of it.

It's only $4.5ish million assuming they release White and Jefferson (which I think they will but then it's only one big).   I'd bet they'd want to unload Bogut if they think he won't be healthy enough.  That would let them replace Landry with Bass, and bring their salary down enough to re-sign Jack and have the full MLE to use.

Of course, they're only doing that deal if they don't win the Howard sweeps.  They need to clear about $34 million to sign him, and that's conveniently what Bogut, Jefferson, and Biedrins make.

Think you meant Randolph, but otherwise, ur right. Just went through the math on Shamsports. Pretty tough to believe they can actually ship all three guys out without taking back any salary, but sounds like they feel they can (per Stein / Vescey).

Sounds like they'd also be sending out assets too though. Barnes/Thompson and picks something like that.

Yep. Just meant tricky to find enough teams with the flexibility to send basically nothing back. Who are they? Kings, Cavs, Magic? I think if they get as far as shipping out Barnes, the Lakers will cave and do a S&T.

Other teams might have trade exceptions too, the Bucks for example after the Reddick deal will have one.

But yeah it'll be tricky, who knows if it is doable. Its in GSW interests to push it as plausible trying to drive the price down for the Lakers if Dwight does pick them.

The Magic are the only team with a trade exception big enough to handle some of those contracts.  It would be delicious if the TE from the Dwight Howard deal enables Dwight to leave LA.

The Hawks could decide to shift into tank mode if Josh Smith is clearly going to leave.  The Mavs could take on the expiring contracts of Bogut and/or Jefferson (and/or Biedrins) if they whiff on Josh Smith and D12 would rather go to Houston if the GS deal doesn't work out.

If I were the Mavs, bringing in Bogut and Jefferson, Barnes or Thompson, and a draft pick would be an interesting situation.  If you could re-sign Bogut, Nowitzki, and Marion for less, you could have enough money to bring in a big-contract guy in the summer of 2014, along with enough young assets to have a good supporting cast.

The key is that no one has to take on salary beyond next season, so a deal is very doable.

And the report is that the Warriors are negotiating with Utah on a Bogut deal, with Orlando and Cleveland also being possible targets for deals that may involve Jefferson or Biedrins.

Marc Stein saying now they're not pushing Bogut deals, only Biedrins/Jefferson.

This new GS situation makes me think Dwight is going let this play out past today.

If GS really is the front-runner, that could be awkward if it doesn't work out and Dwight has to go to his 2nd choice.

I think the lakers will step up for Bogut and Jefferson and a portion of what Golden State is willing to send to other teams for taking on the salary, assuming that Howard chooses golden state.  No reason to walk away with nothing, but they won't get everything either.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
All this Dwight talk is making me scared that Dwight will come to the Bay.

I get it, he's better than Bogut, i just don't like the fact that he quits on his team, and he may quit on this team once the going gets rough.

Shouldn't matter to you really, at the worst he'll be a good trade asset for them.

GS is definitely in a unique position to do a S&T for Howard.  I could see the Lakers being ok doing a deal that preserves their cap space for 2014.

Well, if I were the Warriors, I'd rather dump the more useless players, too.  That won't stop other teams from inquiring about Bogut.
