So the aim is probably to get as bad as we can come July 12th. From that day till the NBA draft in 2014 we'll need to lose as many games as possible while trying to increase the value of our assets.
Theres some debate about what we can get back for Wallace and Humphries, picks or Ben Gordon etc...I don't want to worry about who we get back for Wallace and Humphries. The aim is to move them quickly because although they suck, they make us better than we want to be. Take Ben Gordon and put him in the queue of guards. He can't help us if he's the 3rd string SG. We don't want him going off for 35 points and winning a game by 3 points as a result.
We are going to get terrible, If we have 5 shooting guards who cares? We don't want another center, we want one of our youngins to start.
How do we lose as many games as possible while letting key assets look good?
It seems like Ainge has a plan that revolves around ZERO rim protection and interior defense. This is a way he can keep Rondo and Green and showcase their scoring at least up until February. The showcasing would be for 2014 potential draft trades. In fact he may try this approach the entire season because the later you deal them, the worse the trading partner team is. A threesome of Rondo, Bradley and Green would score well in transition and defend the perimeter well.
Unfortunately(or fortunately) they can't shoot on offense or stop 7 footers inside and almost every NBA team has a 7 footer or starting PF or C that can score. Hell even the bobcats look like they'll have Al Jefferson in a week. Ay kind of big man tandem is going to crush us, and any team with two scoring threats on the wing is going to penetrate and find no resistance at the rim...for easy pickings. I mean can you imagine Durant or ty laws on burning our guards and going to the hole? Not pretty. Zac Randolph and Marc Gasol? Eeeek.
So we are basically 'tanking' our front court, ensuring we lose games.
Our guards look good though and all of them increase their scoring averages with KG, Pierce and Terry gone. Hopefully we move Bass too and lose his 10 ppg.
So come February, I'm assuming Danny floats Green and Bradley hoping for a top 10 pick for both combined.
We can assume he'll attempt the same with Rondo on his own. The asking price will probably be too high for this draft for just Green & Bradley...not sure but it's possible if they both had great seasons. What has a good chance of working is if he'd attempt to get a top 5 pick for Rondo and Green, then hope to land our own top 5 or 10 pick from the tank.
If you're a lottery team that's two pieces away from a playoff contender you'd think long and hard about giving up the 6th pick for Rondo, and what could we get for a combo of Rondo and Green?
If you can't get value around Feb deadline then you can keep both players and ask them to shoot an extra 10-15 3 point shots a game combined with our paint defense to lock in the tank.
That's some lotto dreaming of course but I think the aim is to show off our wing players and Sully so they look good on the offensive end. Put a scrub center out there at all times and make it easy for teams to score on us inside. Start Olnyk and Sully with Green, rondo and Bradley. Bring Melo and Lee in and bump up Lees stats so his deal has worth next offseason.
I've harped on us being overrated with Rondo and ill stress again I really think people are overrating us. We're gonna be so bad with the big man rotation we've got and that's the way Danny wants it. It's sure fire tanking while making your trade assets look good leading up to the big draft.
I mean it's possible that we end up with 2 top 10 picks in the 2014 draft if we tank, and trade Green and Rondo.
I think Danny knows how hard the race to the tank is so either Rondo or Green is going. Whoever gets the biggest return on the dollar.(I hope)
Fingers crossed.
So heres the tough part, would you move Avery and Green for a top 10 pick?
If youre okay with that would you make it Rondo +Green if would land us a top 5 pick?
